Sam sounds great but i would observe he sounds and looks a bit stage school and perfectly placed compared to the other ones. Maybe he will loosen up as he gets more comfortable in to the role.

He's adorable and I can't wait for him to play the younger version of Stephen Ashfield in something.

Another observation that those two in th second part of the song both look twice the age Evan is meant to be!

Agree the 2nd 2 look much older than the other 2 especially the Toronto one. Really liked Sam's voice and I thought it was the best of the 4. He is going to be excellent in this I'm sure. Only pity is I'm not going until the beginning of December.

Has anyone sat in the balcony at the noel coward? I have looked at seat plan but its hard to see what kind of angle your looking at it from when the curtain is down. They have released a few seats up there for £27 in the next few months We've sat on the back row of the Grand Circle, which is currently priced at £35, and had a fab clear view of the stage when we went to see The Inheritance! So I've just booked some tickets for up there! How is the height up there? Have stalls tickets for a few months time but would like to book some cheaper ones too. Bit fearful of heights and can sometimes have moments of vertigo so wondering if grand circle would be okay or not?

Another observation that those two in th second part of the song both look twice the age Evan is meant to be! I saw Stephen Anthony go on as Elder McKinley on Broadway a few years ago (so good) and I think he was in his mid-20s then. He's very boyish but when you put another Evan in a video with Andrew Feldman, you're asking for a bit of trouble!

Yes I would say that even though it is the first preview that the show is in great shape. Preview challenges are there (timing with music/sound/mics/nuances with characterisation etc) but having been with the show since the off-broadway tryouts, it will be humming after a week or two. Have to say that Sam sings 'For Forever' with the nuances expected rather than in the video released (so less perfect and really adding the emotion) I applaud the producers for going with a largely "unknown" cast and really nurturing the talent out there. For those who are still looking for tickets, they are still looking to squeeze in extra seating so watch out as some really good seats will be popping up soon across all dates. The promotional strategy will largely follow what they've done with Mary Poppins to date - the video/additional release dates today sold c100 tickets in the hours since they went live (although not sure if thats good or not). Plus who can't resist a good hat

We sat in row B of the balcony tonight, and I don’t do brilliantly with heights so was a bit worried. Sitting down I found it ok, and not too distant, although a lot of the time my view felt like the tops of people’s heads. Walking down to the seats (and back up) was NOT fun though.

I think the words for tonight are “it’s sick”. You can interpret that in multiple ways.
I haven’t seen this before or listened to the album. It’s really an incredibly simple story of mental health (apparently very funny), the role of social media in society and challenges for acceptance. Yes, it’s very American.
I was surprised it was just a cast of eight and such a simple set (mostly screens). Simpler than Jamie, which appeals to a similar audience, in many ways. The songs are all similar in style to one another. But it works. Even when you should hate some of the characters for what they do, you can still sympathise. And there’s certainly emotion in there (people near me were crying).
All very polished, as you’d expect. Some fine tuning needed on some of the lead vocals, but I guess it’s one of those shows where you don’t want things to sound too perfect.
It is a small theatre, so there are lots of good seats. My Stalls view was perfect, even though the rake isn’t brilliant.
We got given a neat baseball cap at the end with the date of the first show on too.
I think this will do well with the younger audience. A lot of the themes will work for them. I don’t see it being the runaway smash of New York. But I don’t see the disaster of Toronto either. I look forward to seeing it again when all the performances are properly bedded in.

Running time tonight was 2 hours 50 minutes for anyone interested (started on time, no show stops and normal length interval).

View from the back of the stalls is also good (currently £50) - sat there for The Inheritance. There's a good rake at the back of the stalls in the Noel Coward. Given how this is selling I can't see discounts happening for a long while! Yay thanks for this. I’m sitting back of stalls on Thursday night as was worried about the view.

I had the cheapest seats going tonight - £12.50 in the Grand Circle slips, what an absolute bargain, we had an almost perfect view and I didn't even need to lean forward much.
As a piece of entertainment I thought it was good rather than great, but I think it's a really important show that it's wonderful so many young people are connecting with. I now want a free hat at every first preview I attend! 😄

Just watched the video of Tutty singing ‘Waving’ and have to say I’m a bit disappointed. He’s very musical theatre. I thought they’d have chosen someone with a rougher edge to their voice like Platt, but he sounds like a pretty standard west end warbler. Maybe in performance it will work better.

He's worked hard with the team....if you're worried about being too "musical theatre", its not when you watch it.

Going in December. And like the songs. But the more I see the more I worry that this is just a story about whiny teens. This! I've been really excited about it - I play the music in my car a lot - but reading all these "meh" reviews I think I may not be the target market. I didn't particularly like Jamie - a bit of Kings New Clothes about it for me - so a tad concerned I'll be disappointed. Having said that, reading the Waitress comments here and on Twitter etc I thought I would hate it but really enjoyed it so thinking positive about my trip in a few weeks.

I'd say this is much more aimed at teens than Jamie. In Jamie, you have more of a focus on the adult characters and you can associate with them. In Evan, it's really about the teens and the adult characters are much less believable. The teen focus also comes across in the style of music. Yesterday, it was a very mixed aged audience. Lots of theatre types. Quite a few people I recognised, but couldn't say where from. But there were groups of teens as well, prominently clapping and cheering for Evan's first entrance and during many parts of the show. Probably added five minutes to the run time. I think the writers were there, or at least people the teens near me recognised. There were two glamorous women sat immediately in front of me, who were taken backstage after the show (they may have been related to the cast). And I'm sure some were celebrities.

I'll do what I always do and just accept what is in front of me - kinda glad my expectations have been dampened a bit now, I still love the music at least and For Forever gives me goosebumps so I'll be fine - even as a young 50'something!
