Do we think that he posted on social media in the spirit of "haha, look at this totally genuine letter", like he got that it was a joke and decided to run with it because it amused him so much, rather than that he fell for it and believed he was sharing life-changingly great news with his loved ones? I hope so, because then I can keep laughing at Wilma.

Does it matter? It obviously wasn’t contextualised enough for the actual meaning/intent to come through, leading to the really awful situation he’s in now. I think it does. If the real story is that West End Wilma published an article that was inadequately fact-checked, and if the young actor in question always knew it was a fake and posted it for fun to a private group and if he now suffers reputational damage...Lots of ifs but the question for me is who is actually at fault. ETA I also like @baemax’s reading of the situation as it assumes positive intent (and, in the spirit of revealing confirmation bias, fits my world view of ‘social media influencers’ being a menace.)

I’m totally with you on the WEW aspect, but if I was going to share some ‘hilarious’ prank that my friends had pulled on me on twitter I’d make damn sure to frame it properly.

And just like that, Wilma lost all their credibility in my eyes.
Not that they had any to begin with anyway.

Sounds like the sort of copy that even The Sun would reject...or maybe not?

Poor dude, I feel bad for him if he genuinely believed he’d been offered the part.

If anyone needs their Ben Platt fix before the West End run begins, his tour has been announced to be in the UK on June 15th at the Eventim Apollo in London.

“If you accept to undertake this part you will have to be studying a lot more material than other roles... you will also be taking part in other procedures related to the musical”.
and “Evan Hansen (Primary Actor)” shouldn’t that be Primary Character?
I’m sure he didn’t notice how wrong it all reads in the excitement of getting the ‘offer’. You’d imagine that someone with a bit more experience of the industry would have found it suspect though?

Not sure how widely the marketing team have distributed it so far, but there has been a very effective radio ad for DEH playing regularly on Magic radio lately!

Not sure how widely the marketing team have distributed it so far, but there has been a very effective radio ad for DEH playing regularly on Magic radio lately! I put Magic on when I was taking parents out the other day and it was played at least 5 times in the couple of hours I was in the car. Mum said 'my god that boy has got a lovely voice, we'll have to go see it'- it's working at least. And it's not a quick 15-second advert, I'd say it's a bit longer than 30. Has snippets of WTAW and gushes about awards and Pasek and Paul's other work as well as the awards it's won. Agreed that it's an effective advert for it!

As for this whole letter drama, my interpretation is that he could tell it was a fake but wanted to try and trick his friends eg “guys look I got the role!” to see if they were convinced. Then someone in that group may have been convinced, leaking it to WEW.

Yes, because anyone who’s received an email from an African billionaire wanting to share his wealth has discounted it but still shown it to friends regardless, in the hope the press catch on and a real African billionaire comes forward as a result.
Not too sure where the assumption that his peers are legal, theatrical contractural gurus has come from. Wasn’t it confirmed just that they were students, perhaps not even studying arts/theatre, just student friends. They’re not necessarily likely to have a pre-conception of the wording of such documents. Even the ‘victim’ as a student may not necessarily have received a contract like this before, so in his obvious excitement is likely to have got over excited.
Screams of innocent naivety from all angles; the victim, the friends, Wilma, and us.. haha

any casting news for London? I think they’ll hold off, there are more auditions happening (I assume for understudies etc) so I guess casting is not totally complete.
