I must say, Liam Doyle was great singing You Will Be Found at Musical Marathon, so wouldn't be angry about him getting it! He was literally BEGGING for that part. He even brought his own arm sling too! And another plus point, you'll be able to see his big old moon face from the very back of the balcony as well. Note: He did also sing it rather well to be fair. |

*cue Liam Doyle phoning agent* Happy to champion Mr Doyle for anything appropriate but I don't think he's awkward enough for this. I'd rather some fantastic graduate made a name for themself here. Oh I have no problem with Liam Doyle as an actor I think he is great, its just he has made no secret about the fact he wants to be in this. That was my only point. |

Nooo I was chatting to him after and he said that he'd actually dislocated his shoulder. I think that Paul (Taylor-Mills) got him to sing Dear Evan Hansen as a kind of amusing irony. He would be a great Evan though. |

Groundhog Day is by far more complex and intellectual than DEH, a mesh of Next to Normal meets the film World's Best Dad. |

It's in a regular theatre on Broadway too, which has been turned inside out (and upside down) for this production. Yes, but on Broadway it has the benefit of only having one mezzanine level. There are only a handful of theatres that only have one circle in London. Sightlines, unless dramatically altered would be awful in a 'regular' theatre. Also the New London is 'regular'. |

Of all the new Best Musical nominees, Comet it the one I see least likely to transfer. Cast is huge and I just don't see it having the appeal over here.

I imagine if The Great Comet is planning to tour in the US, they'll likely redesign the show to work in the huge barns and that would be the blueprint for potential international productions

Comet's creative team have been involved with creating work over here for a while, so not surprised that they are looking at a London productiion. Given that the superor (to my mind) Next to Normal hasn't got here I would be surprised if DEH prospers, to me the score is generic and a big come down from Hamilton's. Given a show like Spring Awakening's lack of success here it would be a brave producer believing that they could tap into a similar market.

Well, everything about Come From Away was simple and pedestrian, so I don't think it sets the benchmark.
Yes, Comet might be expensive to mount. The theatre will have to be repurposed, probably requires special licensing for safety codes, and the costumes also look like they're worth a high price tag. But it's a fabulous show and a great night out.
