I actually think Sarah started off OK but, Jesus, she sounds awful by the end of it.

I saw last night's show and to answer someone's earlier question, everyone around me, both in the interval, after the show and on the train home was talking about how bad Sarah Harding was. To be fair to her, her leading man is bad as well, vocally all over the place, though he has songs that manage to hide it better and his acting was wooden at best. I feel with a bit more time, he will be just about acceptable for a professional production. But whilst he is bad, she is atrocious. Up until yesterday, I thought nobody would ever steal the crown of the worst performance I have ever seen on a professional stage from Marti Pellow for his 'impressively horrendous' performance in Jekyll and Hyde, but Sarah managed it with ease. As for the production itself, it was what I expect from a Kenwright touring production. If the two leads would be up to the job, the audience might be more forgiving for the 're-imagining' (a.k.a. cost cutting). The 'illusions' were laughable and it would definitely help to at least invest in one 'wow'-moment for people to talk about. The guy playing Karl was ok and the Oda Mae was really good, especially considering that this was her second show and her comic timing was already pretty good, it'll only improve with having a few more shows with an audience under her belt. But I don't think that Sarah Harding is capable to improve to get to the standard necessary to put her in front of a paying audience. I find it unbelievable that someone thought it was ok to make unsuspecting punters pay for this. I went in fully expecting her to be bad, but not THAT bad. I went in expecting a car crash and paid 8 quid for a back stalls, moved up like the poster before me and I got my money's worth in laughs. But if I would have paid 50 quid for a ticket, I would have kicked up a fuss and demanded my money back. I found this on Youtube, her 'amazing' vocals are matched by acting of the same level.  |

Is she singing to herself whilst doing the dishes? I can only imagine how it gets when things get a bit more fraught! What are the chances that the understudy will have been promoted by Bristol?

Sarah Harding sounds terrible in that recording - embarrassing that this is deemed acceptable in a professional production.

Oh dear, that audio isn't good, I wish they had th audience response at the end of the song recorded, unless it was silence haha. I really don't like that new arrangement though, and what kind of foolishness is that cutting of pretty much the whole song?! This cannot be justified as an opening number!

I got about halfway though the clip and then the audible giggling started and i couldn't go on, it was just too uncomfortable at this point.

I tweeted ATG and Bill Kenwright productions to see how to complain about the appalling production for the cost, and they told me to email atgcustomer@theambassadors.com
I would encourage others to do the same if they are so inclined as I'm now really angry at how much I spent on travel and tickets to see this shambles. The lead performances were simply atrocious. When you hear the pianist bashing the melody out loudly you know your leads are incompetent. Their timing, tuning, and tone were awful. The acting made us feel uncomfortable and tense. I can't actually believe how bad it was.

I'm not sure, but assume that it follows the blueprint set by the first uk tour (and possibly uses it's set!).

Found these clips on Youtube too, it sounds like she sings With You like it was in the original workshop clips, in a lower key and melody changed to avoide the E5 in the final verse

I'm not sure, but assume that it follows the blueprint set by the first uk tour (and possibly uses it's set!). It's nowhere near the quality of the first tour! No screens or digital projections. Just floating scenery that wobbles. No illusions. And awful awful casting. (And some cut songs, shortened songs, etc) |

I normally try and put comments to the back of my mind and make my own mind up when I go and see a show but my goodness... for one of the first times ever I'm actually regretting buying tickets for this. Unless they seriously improve (I hope they do as I guess they are putting their all into it?) I'm not looking forward to this at all. It's just so embarrassing! The sniggering and laughter in that video clip just about sums it up.
Call me silly but how on earth did the casting people think that this was a good idea? In a pop band with 4 other people she was probably fine but not in such a vocally demanding show, especially following on from the likes of Caissie Levy and Rebecca Trehearn etc. I feel a bit mean being negative before I've seen it but it's such a shame that what should be an amazing show is now a bit of a laughing stock.

Is there a precedent for someone dropping out of the show after its opened? I know there are some very famous examples of last minute replacements for people who weren't up to the job but for it to actually get to opening and to be this bad??? Will she leave and become the laughing stock or stay and be derided?
Thing is, Kenright is a businessman. He needs bums on seats for this, no matter how cheaply he's produced it he needs sales. He is not going to keep her on if the theatre is 75% empty. Surely?

It did a good jobof masking the limitations and flaws of the show in tandem with some great performances. I assumed, not knowing if it has toured elsewhere, that this would be the set used for Asia. I know for a fact that the Kenwright tour has a new set, as me and a mate knocked it up in my garage on a sunny Tuesday in late July. (Bill still owes me for the craft straws & pritt stick) |
