Was thinking of catching this when it visits Blackpool... Think I'll be saving my money instead.

Maybe they should repackage it as a comedy, along the lines of 'The Play That Goes Wrong'!

I am supposed to be reviewing this when it hits Oxford. At this rate, it won't make it this far...

Are the general audience (I.e. not regular theatre goers) lapping it up though?

Not convinced this is a genuine review because if you read the detail it talks about high tec computer graphics and illusions which were not there. I think maybe someone was paid to put at least one good review up.

That 'review' sounds like it's by someone who was just excited to be let outside into the real world. Or has never seen a show before, ever. Not convinced this is a genuine review because if you read the detail it talks about high tec computer graphics and illusions which were not there. I think maybe someone was paid to put at least one good review up.

This is a kenwright show though.. So it probably doesn't get any more technically complicated than someone waving a drinks can around on a black stick (as a special effect') Just found out this show had its first day in technical rehearsals on Tuesday. Three days to tech a new production of a musical is not much at all. When is its official opening night?

If I was Bill kenwright I would be very concerned about the amount of seats still available on a Saturday.

"Although this is a musical, songs are not used as frequently as in a typical musical and seem to be slotted in as necessary, not detracting from the storyline." So that would be like a typical musical, then.

I've just been in Sunderland city centre and the shopping centre is full of ads and billboards for this so, from a publicity front at least, they're doing that right. The photo they've used is awful though!

That review is a flat out lie anyway. There was definitely no standing ovation at all!!! I can't even think of any illusions either! Maybe there was a newspaper and a gun on a string! That's about it.

Yeah there are no computer graphics at all, never mind high tech ones. This person didn't even see the show!

With illusions by Paul Daniels and Jenny Seagrove first cover Mollie...? Another show bites the BKL dust. A micro site for a micro production? "Reimagined" is the new "cheap" ! "Reimagined"- no set, no decent cast, no quality anywhere! Brilliant. Whenever I hear "reimagined" my first thought is "actor-muso". God I hope not. "It can be performed on any scale, and its vibrant heart will still captivate an audience and allows the imagination to flourish" So basically it sounds like they are turning it into a totally different show and taking away the set and the technology that helped make it so great... "Reimagined" is the new "cheap" ! Only 4 bars of 'Unchained Melody' allowed to save on licensing costs... no magic tricks. Sam will now open a door to walk through it. Same thing right? Costume will presumably be Sam hiding under a sheet from Primark with two eye holes cut out. I have a feeling that Sabrina Aloueche might have been cast as Molly. Interesting to see how right our TheatreBoard experts were all those months ago. Nelly was a bit off with that last one though

That review is a flat out lie anyway. There was definitely no standing ovation at all!!! A reminder to publicists: It's not a standing ovation if the audience is facing the exit. (I can't resist bringing up the wonderful term mistypingly coined by the producer / director / writer of Exposure: a "stabding ovation", where the show makes the audience want to cut themselves.)

That's about it. Maybe they saw people standing up to walk out as they couldn't take anymore and mistook it for an ovation?!

I was highly amused by this! And I don't take back what I wrote. If she had put in a little effort I might have felt some symphathy, but she couldn't even be bothered to learn the script. I will add it really isn't just her though, yes she's the worst, but it's so much more than just her performance that makes it a trainwreck.

Just came out of the matinee, loved the original at the Piccadilly Theatre and the Lunt Fontanne, both leads were superb Richard Fleshman and Cassie Levy. Saw the No.1 tour at this very venue about 3-4 years ago and was mightly impressed how they stayed true and replicated the West End production, even cutting out the awful ball of wax song.
So Sam doesn't get killed by a drive by now and gets shot dead, however the whole thing is one big car crash. Theatre Ghosts will be spinning in their grave.
Both leads were woefully underpowered: Sarah Harding cannot sing or act apart from that she was superb. Andy Moss comes from the same provenance as Richard Fleshman, television soaps, except Richard was brilliant, Andy was awful. The artists who played Oda Mae and Carl were reasonable, not a patch on the originals though.
As others have alluded to, the illusions were laughable, with the famous door scene (one of the best illusions done in theatre) to a door that is sideways to the audience and you can clearly see a hatch being pulled open. Other Illusions non existent, honestly the Union theatre would have put on a better production than this. This was tacky, gaudy, twee, tawdry, if I said it was ostentatious that would have been a complement.
The performances were so terrible I didn't even Ovate at at the end, which is unheard of me. I was that appalled. It did get me on my feet, to go to the exit.
I was in a seat at the back of the stalls for £12 and just moved forward the whole back section was empty. This will be easily done by Chistmas and can see it being pulled soon.

Someone shared this on my Facebook... Thankful for bootleggers.... I'm not gonna lie, I have no problem with Andy at this stage. He sings in tune, I'm fairly sure he'll do the part justice. He's not the greatest vocalist but I can tell he'll get stronger as time goes on. But Sarah. What on earth was Kenwright thinking?!
