So turns out this wasn't the car crash I was expecting after reading everything on here. I think my expectations were lowered so much.beforehand that I took it for what it is. Sure it's not the original but for those who don't know any different it's a good night out. I want my money back

A friend saw it in Newcastle last night, he said the only good thing about the production was Jacqui Dubois. That's because she can act and sing. Unlike the rest. He must have had a hard job as it's on in Sunderland. Believe me, you do not want to get these two confused!

oops. I just presumed it was Newcastle as that's where he lives. He actually travelled to see it?? That makes it worse!

He should have stayed in Newcastle and watched Mary Poppins!
Would have had a much better time.

I went to see this yesterday afternoon with low expectations from what I'd read on here - I only really went to see a cast member I knew from other shows. I actually thought it wasn't that bad. It wasn't the best show I've seen, but it was a nice day out, and I deliberately got a cheap seat. I couldn't see one corner of the stage, so missed whatever they didn't do with the door. They had signs up saying Sam was on as Sam, I thought he was really good. There was more to the set than what I was expecting, and I was confused that they did the pot making at the beginning before Sam was dead. Overall I found it a bit dreary, but that's partly the show overall rather than just this production. And I echo the earlier post that Sarah's done well to overcome all the negativity about her.

Hate how sensationalised this piece is. She hasn't pulled out of the show, she was ill and had to be replaced mid show during one performance. Hardly a 'health scare'. Talk about making something out of nothing. Interesting link though, thanks MrHurdsfield

How unprofessional of her to spend time enjoying herself only two days before falling ill. She should be more like Mail journalists, who anticipate future illness by sucking all the joy out of the world at every opportunity.
(Also, what the hell is going on with the grammar in that second sentence quoted above?)

If anybody, for some bizarre reason, wants a ticket to see this in Nottingham in december, do let me know as I'm willing to let go of it for a drastically reduced price! I can't imagine sitting through it again. (I bought it before I'd seen this production for what it's worth!)

As much as I feel like it was a disaster to cast Sarah in this show, the appetite which some have for her to fail makes me very uncomfortable. I guess the Mail wants her to have a Sheridan Smith type episode. Is there any news on whether Sarah will stick with the show beyond her initial scheduled run?

Just back.
Hold on to your hairdo's.....
Girl did good.
Yes, that's what I said. Sarah Harding did not hit a bum note throughout this evening's performance. The acting isn't quite there, but jeepers creepers compared with the clips I saw of her in Corrie she's come on in leaps and bounds. Her accent was absolutely fine and consistent throughout. I actually found her rather engaging to watch. She's very vulnerable which is obviously perfect for this. No she didn't belt anything but the rather dull songs in this show don't call for it.
As for the production, hold on to that hairdo even tighter..... I preferred it to the original which frankly left me cold. Fur coat, no knickers. This was obviously a different ballgame altogether in terms of whistles and bells but no WAY as bad as has been reported. I was more involved than the first time and confess to filling up twice when Sam dies and at the end when he "leaves" which is done with a lot of charm.
I admit it, I went to have a laugh at Sarah Hardings incompetence. Joke's on me!

I truly wish I'd had that experience. I went in wanting to love it, which may have been my error, as I adored the original production. I do have a ticket for Nottingham in December that I wasn't going to attend after seeing the abysmal production in Wimbledon, but I'm considering revisiting it based on what you've said there. It's not necessarily that the songs need a belt, but to rewrite melodies that don't quite provide the same build or impact didn't work for me. I really hope that if I do revisit, it can redeem itself from the shambles I saw a couple of months ago. And that wasn't just Sarah. I'm quite jealous of your experience of the show!

Well, I've no idea about rewriting melodies. I have zero investment into the original because despite being impressed with the stagecraft of it I found it totally forgettable. If you want a repeat of that show then it's not going to happen, no matter whether it's SH or anyone else. It would be interesting to hear your views after seeing the opening at Wimbledon and whether SH and the show generally has improved by the time it gets to Nottingham. But don't go on my account, you may still hate it

Maybe I'll go for research so I can compare/contrast!

I know they have adjusted the key of some of Sarah's songs, so that could help, but really glad to hear a positive report from the show!

She's rumoured to be going on "I'm A Celebrity" this year, although so are a thousand other D-listers without a panto. Is that possible? (I don't know when she's contacted to on Ghost)

Lol at the 'special' effect to make him look ghostly just before the end of it.

Do you know, reading these last few posts has really made me feel quite happy.I've never seen the show but had been interested to based on the how many people said they enjoyed the original. I don't any feeling positive or negative about Sarah, but I was obviously not happy with her casting when it was first announced, as I was hoping for a theatre performer with some expertise which would draw me in.
I'll say this, you can't knock her at all in terms of commitment. Aside from the initial illness a few days into the run (and that non entity of a story when she missed half a show) she's been strong and taken the negativity in her stride and just gotten on with the show. What else can you do, really? Reading a positive review goes to show that it's paid off, at least in some audience members eyes. I honestly hope she continues to improve and they finally decide to hold a press night.
Of course, I've not see the show (original or revival) so can't comment on the other Kenwrighteque elements of staging / effects / casting etc. in question, based on my own experiences, but I have been keeping a close eye on this story as a potential audience member, and so it's nice to finally read something positive about Sarah's performance.

Totally agree. Nobody wants to see a car show, glad they seem to be settling in and changing opinions.

Perhaps investing in another weeks rehearsal could've saved all of this drama and public humiliation. I increasingly feel that the blame lies at one door!

(I don't know when she's contacted to on Ghost) I saw this too but when I looked at dates it just can't work as she's performing until the 26th November and I'm a celeb has always started by then plus she's would need to get to Australia etc.

And that trailer doesn't look bad at all!! I think the set looks rather good to be honest and nothing cheap or nasty. I think the problem is people are comparing to the original and that's the problem. The original obviously had better sets and illusions but that was a completely different producer who did that show so they have to alter it again with a new set designer etc. If this was the first ever production of Ghost and people had nothing to compare it to then maybe it wouldn't receive so much backlash?!

The other problem is idiots going to early previews and then feigning surprise that there's room for improvement.
Now, before it's even opened, it's getting full houses and audiences are tweeting their satisfaction.

Im going to see it tomorrow night...when I booked I knew it wasn't going to be the big technical show that the previous production was. But the last few Kenright shows I've seen, I have loved. So I live in hope.
