The Dominion is also a barn though, so it's meaningless to compare with any other show. I don't understand the need to be so constantly negative in comparing sales! In fact Drury Lane seats 100 MORE than Dominion Therefore not really meaningless And my point was a show with "three thousand five star reviews" Is failing to pack out the venue Any my wider point being this show was always a mistake in that venue If you cannot pack RDL either and have to shut the balcony,surely it was also a mistake to house 42nd Street in that venue as well? |

If Parsley would tone down his bitter, salty demeanor, he might see that 2 shows running in large theaters have both been extended and thus people are coming to support them

It is now on TKTS with reduction The seating plans show swathes of unsold seats At least 42nd Street are able to shut off the balcony And move people down a level They have also amended their pricing and the dynamic nature means the discounts on TKTS have been removed for now They would rather offer the same price to customers buying directly a few days ahead The Dominion has no such options I know the herb is bitter, but Parsley is there any need? |

Went to see this again yesterday, this time sitting on front row stalls as against back row circle last time. Lovely to be so close and able to see facial expressions but to actually see the dancing properly the far view was better. Some of the ensemble members have changed, also the two minor characters were played by different people, otherwise the same cast as before except for Ashley Day as Jerry Mulligan instead of Robert Fairchild. I liked Day as a character but his dancing wasn't a patch on Fairchilds. The fact that he wasn't trained as a ballet dancer really showed. Anyway I still enjoyed it immensely and glad that I went to see it again.

A real tale of two acts this one. I was quite prepared to walk after Act 1 - I don't remember being so bored in a theatre before. Glad I stayed as Act 2 is packed with showstoppers. Fidgety Feet and Stairway to Paradise in particular.
Alternate Jerry was on, he was fine but was a whole beat behind the orchestra for most of 'I've Got Beginners Luck' but I thought he handled himself well against Leanne Cope who is a beautiful dancer. David Season-Young is marvellous and really stole the show for me, and the u/s for Henri was also fine.
What is going on with Jane Asher's accent?!
It looks nice enough and fills the Dominion stage and on reflection it was worth going to hear Gerwshin tunes played by that gorgeous orchestra.
Audience was incredibly obnoxious; talking, rustling, coughing, texting - the works!
If it was between this and 42nd Street, I'd choose 42nd Street every day of the week.

"Stairway to Paradise" would be wonderful if it had, well ya know, an actual staircase? Guess the props department sent it on to 42nd Street instead. That said, Max von Essen batted it out of the parkin NYC -- something Haydn Oakley isn't vocally equipped to do. I'd love to see the new alternate Jerry, who is a star dancer with ENB !!

As a newcomer to the Theatreboard I am not familiar with what has already been said comparing An American in Paris with 42nd Street but I was seriously disappointed with AAIP but thrilled by 42nd Street. But am I the only person to fail to be happy with the totally abstract ballet at the end of AAIP with no characters, no story and no reference to the sights and sounds of Paris, which is why Gershwin wrote the piece in the first place? The ballet was impressive, but what was it doing in An American in Paris?

The rest of it seemed completely pointless & the bright colours made my eyes ache. I'm not a fan of abstract or non-narrative dance in general & this was no exception. |

Because sales figures aren't published by individual shows so there's no way they could know anyway. Given that Lion King all but sells out every single performance that they do, in one of the West End's biggest theatres and some of the West End's highest prices...I find it hard to believe it would be anything other than number 1, never mind out of the top 10 altogether. |

I saw this yesterday evening via Todaytix Rush (my 2nd attempt as tix were sold out before my turn 1st time) and was very happy with my aisle seat in row C of the circle. Although, as theatremonkey notes, the depth of the stage and curve of the circle cost part of the view, there was a good perspective of the action and I was in a prime position for the dash for the loos at the interval and for the exit at the end - and I wouldn't have wanted to get stuck in a crowd of the size that venue holds.
I loved the design but thought the plot a little lacking and implausible: not a lot of development and as others have noted, it seemed implausible that 3 men - and all too similar in age and looks - would fall for one woman and the denouement wasn't accounted for. But it was a pleasant enough experience and the show is clearly still packing people in.
