Has the cast not been announced yet?
The three people who've bought tickets must be bursting with anticipation!

We have kept saying Baz will announce pretty much every week of the Summer. If it isn't a star casting, Cinders will probably be announced with the Ensemble etc. I am guessing the next big musical news will be an In the Heights announcement, considering most of the cast leaving is a week tomorrow. Cinderella is in December, the cast of In the Heights leave literally in a week. And that is news I am more exited about than the casting of a pantomime.

Seems wrong to not have men as the step sisters...

So relieved that the rumours of Broccoli Spears were unfounded.

I don't know why but it seems a growing trend for there to be less cross-dressing in pantos. Is it because (not so) secretly not OK with two people of the same gender flirting/kissing. Or are they worried about offending the trans community?

I think Natasha is great casting for this!!
Im not sure the ugly sisters is great casting purely because I haven't heard of them and I thought the Sisters were huge parts but then again there isn't usually a wicked stepmother in Cinderella so maybe the sisters won't be huge parts.

All great MT people, but are they going to sell many tickets? If i'd bought one I'd be feeling a little short changed.

Disappointed the sisters are not played by men...it never works as well with women in the role. I still shudder at Kim and Aggie (from some cleaning programme) playing the Uglies at Brighton Theatre Royal. Strangely it was the last panto the Theatre Royal have done and that was many years ago.
I suppose with Paul O'Grady playing the wicked step mother the roles of the Uglies will be downgraded for this with Paul doing most of the work the Uglies usually do. It will certainly alter the dynamic of the piece.

Very happy with Natasha as Cinders (and more than a little relieved given some of the rumours!) . Michael Harrison has commented on the sisters' casting...
I won't embed every tweet but he continues:
When you have O'Grady and Clary on your team with huge costume changes and bags of comedy the sisters need to take on a different guise. Hence in @cinderella_LDN they are Wicked not Ugly. The show needs balance and it doesn't need too much drag. We have the greatest already. Paul O'Grady's Stepmother will be his greatest pantomime creation yet @cinderella_LDN @qdospantomimes. And @julianclary as Dandini will be the talk of London (or at least Soho). He is a master and one of the greatest I have ever worked with. And don't forget the great Mollie Sugden once played Dame @palladiumlondon so what we are doing isn't new. Our wicked sisters won't have a funny bone in their bodies. Plenty of evil ones though... @cinderella_LDN

Wow Natasha, thinking about it, it all makes sense! Her year really has been a Cinderella story haha!
Bets on Don't Rain on My Parade being shoo-horned in? And I wouldn't be surprised if there was a joke or two thrown in about the whole Funny Girl situation as well. Maybe not by Natasha, but possibly by another cast member. It is pantomime afterall!

Ridiculously pleased for Natasha, very well deserved. She can definitely bring her own 'rags to riches' element to the role. There must be some tongue in cheek with this casting choice, surely, even if it is only a little.
This also means I can still hold out hope of seeing her in the Funny Girl tour from February too.

From Broadwayworld:
upon seeing her in the role during star SheriDan Smith's two-month hiatus, the show's producer, Michael Harrison, knew that they had found their Cinderella. He insisted that his co-director, Andrew Wright, see the show to vet the burgeoning star. After catching a performance of Funny Girl, Wright agreed and they offered her the role.
Barnes will star opposite Paul O'Grady as the Wicked Stepmother, Julian Clary as Dandini, Amanda Holden as the Fairy Godmother and Wendy Somerville and Suzie Chard as the stepsisters.
"Natasha will be feisty and funny, and she's got that extra twinkle" Harrison told the Daily Mail, "When you're on stage with O'Grady and Clary, you've got to hold your own."

It will certainly alter the dynamic of the piece. The last time I saw Paul O'Grady in a pantomime he was on stage for a total of about 20 minutes out of a pantomime that lasted 2.5 hours, so I wouldn't get your hopes too high.

Ah, that's brilliant news for Natasha and hugely deserved. How refreshing that when people so often fastrack their way to stardom on the likes of The X Factor or are stunt cast in lead roles with little relevant experience, Natasha has worked in supporting roles for several years and waited until an opportunity came along, grasped it with both hands, and ended up being so impressive she's been offered the title role at a Palladium show without even being asked to audition. The parallels between the Cinderella story and her own are the icing on the cake.

Wow, so she was just offered the part. A star is born! Not strictly true - producer and co-director watched her in FG, then offered her the role. Still great, though.
