I think with the exception of a few understudies and Glaston Toft (original Nick in Australia and I think is doing it again now), every time I've seen the show, they go out of their way to cast an exceptionally tall guy as Bob to stick out from the rest of the group. They even say "preferably tall" here: www.backstage.com/casting/jersey-boys-dancers-49578/bob-186039/

Eugene McCoy and Matt Nalton were both the tallest person of the 4 Seasons when they played Nick Massi in the West End which may be why cheesy116 thinks Nick was the tallest in the group.

Saw the tour today in Woking and felt the production was a world away from the standards set when it was in the West End. There were six covers on which perhaps had something to do with it... too many performances were unrefined and seriously lacking in energy or spark, particularly in the ensemble. And I never normally single out someone for negative reasons but felt Arnold Mabhena in the Barry track was either having a very bad day or is just sadly miscast. It looked like he had no confidence and his vocals were woeful.
That said, Dayle Hodge is a good Frankie Valli and I enjoyed seeing James Winter’s very sincere Bob Gaudio (eight years after first seeing him the part) again. Lewis Griffiths’s booming bass vocals are also quite something!

Is there a tour thread for this? if so feel free to move? I went to this in Cardiff last night, and rediscovered my love of this show. I saw it in San Francisco in 2006 and adored it, then caught the first UK tour and loathed it (which in fairness was the fault of the horrid lady sat next to me...) but last night I rediscovered what I love about this show- I'm a nerd for biopics in general and this is still the gold standard of how to do that in a jukebox musical. The cast were uniformly great I thought, I particularly liked Simon Bailey and I'm now trying to place what the hell I've seen him in before. Anyway as the kids say I'm a total Jersey Boys stan now. playrightplaywrong.blogspot.com/2019/01/jersey-boys-national-tour.html

Ooh, Simon Bailey! He was my first Enjolras, and I've definitely enjoyed him in other shows since (even when the shows didn't have much else to enjoy about them like Whisper House).

I saw this at the Mayflower, Southampton, yesterday. I have to confess I never saw it in the West End but I found it an enjoyable Juke Box musical. I had no problems with the sound. Audience reasonably well behaved apart from an occasional texter next but one to me.

It's for another show, so I apologise for jumping on your comment. Just thought I'd ask

We sat that far back for "Cats" and it was OK but for "Phantom", we couldn't see the chandelier falling and we felt that we would have preferred to be nearer the stage.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.

No, no, not to worry. It's for Matilda. Centre in Z Row. Just hoping it's going to be okay.

I've sat there a couple of times, it's not awful but I wouldn't like to be there for a unfamiliar show, although this was before the refurbishment so not sure what it's like now

It will be a crowd pleaser for sure and just the pick-me-up a lot of people could do with, and I wish them well.........but........... I'll be disappointed if it's a long runner and we lose the diverse programming we got at the old Trafalgar Studios. There were misses amongst the hits but the stuff was nearly always interesting. However I appreciate covid has totally changed the landscape.

I was looking forward to visiting the 'new' venue but not now... Meh! Safe and dull programming.

Gosh, rather disappointing, but guess they need something safe that will put bums on seats. Seriously though could we not have something that had been out of the West End a bit longer?!
Saying that though, are the GBP ready to book non socially distanced performances yet?

What a waste. A new West End theatre and it'd filled with a return of Jersey Boys? *shakes head*

What a waste, couldn't agree more. And if that foreshadows the West End programming of the future...

Fingers crossed this goes in and makes them some much needed income so that they can then put on more diverse programming using that income. Most places will probably need the crowd pleasers or big well known names to tempt the average/occasional theatregoer back to start with before they are financially able to take risks on new writing again

Great show, very sensible move. I presume it will be the stripped down version for smaller theatres that's on at New World Stages.
Yes, it is a shame to lose the smaller productions, but it's an economic reality right now if we want to get theatre going again. And there are plenty of empty fringe theatres.

I am very happy about this news as I love this show.
I didn't even know the Trafalgar Studios were one theatre split into two!

Why the negativity?
After what will be a year of not having much theatre at all - the important thing will be getting money flowing through the system and building up consumer confidence.
Investors are not going to be backing "iffy" shows at the moment, they will need to build up their own war chests again, hence the crowd pleasers. Once that happens, we'll start to see a return to the usual mixture of shows (although who knows what will happen at the new Trafalgar Theatre, as we will lose a studio space there).
Next year it'll be mainstream big hitters or no theatre. I would opt for a trip to New Jersey any day out of those two.

What changes have been made? They have a smaller ensemble who cover a lot more roles each. And the set is a lot simpler. I did consider booking this morning, but it's a bit on the pricey side so I'll hold off until nearer the time.
