Someone on Twitter said it looked and felt like they had been rung by BTG with an hour to spare and rushed to the theatre in a blind panic, threw on some random clothes and winged it all...ooops! Sheridan worries me for some reason.

Whilst it wasn't perfect, some of the comments on here imply a deeper level of acting / showmanship is required. It's Joseph. Im sure it will be alright on the night. The music and spectacle carry this show, along with high octane energy (which the ending seemed to have in abundance). Personally, I found the new orchestrations refreshing - nothing looks or sounds particularly brilliant on the BGT stage, including most of the acts. Orchestrations (in fact the actual soundtrack) sounded to me like they’d been lifted from the Donny Osmond video - the giveaway being the percussion in Go Go Go Joseph |

I thought it was woeful. Sheridan and Jason sounded ropey, and the costumes looked cheap. Not keen on the coat either. I prefer the one used in the 1991/2007 productions.

In all seriousness, Jac did very well- looked like a natural and sung very nicely, more than can be said about his costars.
The dreamcoat looks great & I quite enjoyed the cheesy choreography.

Someone has started a thread on another site (which has very little interest in musicals) as a result of that performance. I had to check it out.
Thoughts . . .
. . . The new Joseph seems good and I shan’t say anymore.

It was like a gym flash mob. A 1990s gym flash mob! 😆 I just don’t know what to say about that performance, lol! I mean, the dude playing Joseph was good! Jason was woeful and Sheridan was okay but her costume was a bit odd lol It looked like they were having a good time at least and it did have energy 👍 |

A piece doesn't need to be totally reworked to be refreshed. It definitely wasn't lifted from the Donny Osmond vid. |

Was so disappointed in that. It really was a mess. I don't particularly like Sheridan Smith but was quite prepared to have an open mind however after seeing this tonight I'm really sorry I bought a ticket. However the ticket is bought so I'll be going and will be hoping there is a great improvement before they open.

It definitely needs polishing, but I enjoyed it. Very energetic. I just hope that by opening night, Sheridan is able to sustain the notes in Jacob & Sons - they were very... clipped

The energy of the ensemble and the Joseph look fine
But Smith and Donovan just can't sing it - and that is unacceptable for a show with £100+ tickets

Jacob and Sons was a tone lower than usual (D instead of E)
Any Dream Will Do was a tone higher than usual (D instead of C for JD and Mead/D Flat for Donny Osmond).
It’s possible that Any Dream Will Do was only in a higher key this evening to make for a cleaner segue between songs, and could return to C or D flat in the show.
It’s not surprising that Jacob and Sons is a tone lower. Belting high E’s is a tough ask for anyone playing the narrator, let alone somebody not necessarily known for consistent high belting.

I agree in principal, but this show is always different, there isn’t necessarily “the way it’s written”. Laurie Beechman, for example, sang it lower again in C, because the arrangement was completely different. Just because SS sings it a tone lower, doesn’t mean she “can’t sing the role”. Transposition of this nature happens way more often than you might think. Sustaining the notes, I suspect, will come in time. This is only after 1 (or 2) weeks of rehearsals. |

There is no excuse for a professional performer to not be ready for this sort of event. No excuse at all.

What a train wreck. None of them can sing. Joseph has a terrible vibrato and he is going to butcher CED. Jason just looked lost trying to dance. Has he ever heard of Elvis. Sheridan had the girls out for a jog.
