There’s never gonna be a coat to beat the 1991 design, but I think this is the second best I’ve ever seen. No Bill Kenwright tackiness.

And as a whole it came across as a bit of a mess.

Never seen it before so have nothing to compare it to.
But my god that start with Sheridan... Looked like some people just ran out of an 80's style workout.
Jac Yarrow was very good.
And by the end, I was won over, but only by the pure energy of the ensemble. Not by the costumes or the mash-up!
Will hold off till I hear some reports!

Jason good as always, New Joseph seemed to be pretty good too.

Did someone just inject me with something? Had a horrific fever dream where JD & SS played themselves while some cool kid tried to keep the side up. The costumes! The horror!

Dear God, JD REALLY cannot sing, he was terrible. As was his 'costume.' Sheridan did so little can't really judge. So kids are playing brothers.....
Still, Jac sounded good.
#Disappointing.
BUT, as ever, I shall reserve judgment.

Well I did warn you about the younger brothers!
Not sure by the 80s styling.... not sure that Jason Donovan has ever heard Elvis.... and not sure Sheridan will cope.
But they certainly threw everything into it.

BUT, as ever, I shall reserve judgment. JD’s voice is in a much better state than just over a year ago when he started his last tour! Unfortuntely he’s had ongoing vocal issues over the last few years and he’s come a long way. He’s only got one song to do so hopefully all will be good

I find shows rarely come across well on TV. I don’t think I have ever seen a good performance from a musical on a TV show. Take the examples from earlier in the week on BGT, I didn’t think ON YOUR FEET or SIX came across particularly well. However, I have to agree with what seems like the general consensus - this was AWFUL! The singing was dreadful, Jason and Sheridan gurned through their performances, kids playing the brothers made no sense. I could go on and on. I have not got tickets for this, and it seems like I have made the right decision. I have a soft spot for the show as well.

So Sheridan isn’t bothering to sing the role, just shouting it instead. Great....

Has Sheridan upset the costume department??
It did nothing to make me want to see it. Such a shame.

I loved the energy of it!
I'm so bored of the cheap staging of the tour that looks straight out of the local Gangshow. So ready for something new.

Is that Sheridan’s actual cossie...oh dear! Would have given her a robe or a cloak like an empress, perhaps. It was some kind of shiny blue work-out number.Looks like she will be more than just a static immobile narrator and will be a very active presence.Brothers costumes looked like Primark rejects and why are some of them so young? No characterisation from Jace. However, still a month or so until the opening.Jac has a lovely singing voice and I love the new coat. Will be seeing it in the summer and hope it is going to do well.A truly wonderful musical! Very hard to shine in BGT as there is zero context.

I disagree; it’s a showcase for your product. It doesn’t need context. You’re just a turn on a talent show votey bit. Do your best, put forward your best, most familiar work. If it’s sh!t, don’t bother. I thought Jac was good, but Sheridans hideous outfit and non-performance gave me no faith in her ability to deliver. I can’t begin to even process whatever it was JD was doing, but yes, it’s only one song. Anyway, shush, Mamma Mia just started on Channel 5.

Whilst it wasn't perfect, some of the comments on here imply a deeper level of acting / showmanship is required. It's Joseph. Im sure it will be alright on the night. The music and spectacle carry this show, along with high octane energy (which the ending seemed to have in abundance). Personally, I found the new orchestrations refreshing - nothing looks or sounds particularly brilliant on the BGT stage, including most of the acts.
