I'm so happy so many people are getting a dream-come-true chance to see Linzi. Things like this are rare!
I was the wrong age for the '91 production. Having grown up on Joseph, and seen the Kenwright tour for numerous birthday treats in the early eighties, by the time the Palladium revival rolled round I'd had my fill of Joseph and was away at university. I have the cast recording, of course, and agree Linzi is absolutely amazing on it, although I find the rest a little slick and glossy compared with other recordings (my favourite is probably the OBC).
Having seen Sheridan two years ago, I don't really want to spend money on seeing that production again, much as I'd love to see Linzi in the role. Now, if only someone could invent a time machine so I could go back to 1991...

I would think again as the thing that was wrong with it was her. Sure, changing it to have her play various roles was a bit poor, but it was hearing that thrilling score sung by such a nondescript voice that really brought it down. Hopefully they can reprogramme some bits so that Linzi gets to let rip.

Any thoughts on whether LH might do the tour next year? Is this version expected to tour or is it the BK tour you’re asking about?

Wow, I’d always assumed that after the inevitable nuclear war, all that would be left was cockroaches and Kenwright’s Joseph tour.

I doubt Linzi Hateley would do the tour. She was asked in an interview back in Jan if she would ever return to Joseph, and she said no, it was a young persons part. She felt she had closed the door (no pun intended) on the show. I bet they made her an offer she couldn't refuse. It might be in different keys now, but the part is far more active than it was.

Agree. I’d be (pleasantly) surprised if she did the tour. I think it’s a lot more of a demanding part now than it was 30 years ago, with her doing double duty as Jacob, mrs Potiphar and the jailer, add to tourings often punishing schedule and I think it would be asking a lot tbh. I’m a decade younger than her and I feel tired just thinking about doing that on tour! You never know though!

I don’t want to sound disrespectful, but would they not want more of a “name” for the tour?

Can anyone who has seen Alexandra as the Narrator, let me know if you can understand her? I saw her in Sister Act and frankly if I didn't already know the show very well, I'd have been utterly clueless as to what she was saying, felt like I was listening to someone with an amazing voice but who inexplicably had chosen to perform with cotton wool in her mouth.
Of course I know every word of Joseph (shush, I was the Narrator once myself) but it would be good to know if the above isn't people's usual experience with Alexandra because my idiot brain insists on being paranoid that I'll end up seeing her when I'm expecting Linzi.

christya, when I saw Alex last Monday, I didn't have any issues with the singing and could hear the lyrics clearly enough.

Thanks! I'm honestly starting to wonder if there was some kind of sound issue when I saw her - everyone else was crystal clear though, but she's working so consistently in theatre that people cannot possibly be hearing what I heard.

Linzi on again tonight, not planned I believe so I guess she will be covering Alexandra if she needs to take other shows off like the Alfie/John arrangement in Les Mis last year.

I didn't get a programme on Sunday, but i'm surprised there isn't an understudy for the Narrator, unless Linzi is considered that. I thought/assumed 'at certain performances' meant what was advertised. Does that mean that Linzi can't commit or do anything else for the whole run? I'm intrigued.

Oh wow! I was looking forward to seeing Alexandra but I’m equally chuffed to see Linzi tonight!!! I was planning to see her anyway in one of her August shows. Will be easier to plan another date to see Alexandra now.

I’m hoping she might do the matinee tomorrow! If not I’m going to have to book one of her planned dates!
