Adrian Lester for me. Which is fine, although I can't deny I'd lvoe to have seen Le Gateau Chocolat just for it being camp as hell

It's not that I'm not fond of Adrian Lester, it's just that the other options are so much more interesting. Still, I'll get over it, I'm sure.

I've got Adrian Lester too. The one I didn't want. Great actor. But singer?? hmmm..... and I didn't like the song to begin with.

I’m really interested to see how this show plays out in the #metoo era, or if they change it in any way to reflect it.

He also played Anthony in Sweeney Todd at the RNT, and neither of those performances convinced me that he has a terrific voice. We'll agree to disagree

as someone who doesn’t know the show at all, what’s the benefit to having a parade of ‘stars’ alternate the role? And is there anything interesting regarding the variety of genders cast?

It's arguably the most famous song in the show and the character who sings it is literally only in that one scene. I don't know what *benefit* it brings, having an array of performers in the role, but it's definitely the role to do it with. The role is Daddy Brubeck, leader of the Rhythm of Life Church, so it's obviously a role that's been written for a man, but it doesn't matter who plays it really (because it doesn't matter for any relationships or anything that he is a man) as long as they can sell it; I've seen a woman do it in an amateur production, and I'm pretty sure Manchester had a female Daddy as well. It's a good role to do some outside-the-box casting with, and the actors are going to go with it because they do get the best known song in the show.

I challenge you to a duel, surely Big Spender is the shows most famous song?

Surely they could tempt Patti, Rosalie, Jonny B and The Fleesh back for a week each. 🤪 Or even better the entire Company cast to do the song every night !

I've got Adrian Lester (good!) and Le Gateau (who I'd never heard of) for my second visit.

If I point out that I said "arguably", does that let me gently back out of any duel? Alternatively, wanna team up and demolish the poor naive fool who thinks There's Got To Be Something Better Than This is going to be anywhere near as well known as our two picks? (The thing that bothers me most about Rhythm Of Life is that it's written with very little syncopation and yet people always sing it syncopated. Just sing it as written for heaven's sake, just ONCE.)

I’ll be honest - I love it all. Loved the Menier production and love Shirley in the film. My main criteria for enjoying it is a good ‘Rich Man’s Frug ‘. Yeah yeah. 🚬 💨

I like ALL the songs! But particularly Baby Dream Your Dream, I'm The Bravest Individual (which they replaced with something less good in the film) and You Should See Yourself (I think that's the title?)

How have we got this far with no one mentioning If My Friends Could See Me Now?
Gwen Verdon's recording of it must be one of my favourite musical theatre numbers of all time!

Wonder why they haven't announced a schedule for later in the run - I'm not going until the late May bank holiday weekend and would like to know who I'll be seeing!
