I’m debating whether to get a £25 tix with the offer and I’ll get Row HH Rear stalls but then there’s £15 tix 7 rows back row PP. has anyone been to this venue? Should I splash out or not? Aha

I'm now going on Wednesday. I wasnt a huge fan of the OBCR and only played it a few times, so will be interested to see how it plays out in performance, especially in a barn like the RFH.

Just got a couple of £35 stalls seats from the Today Tix offer. It's not a musical I am familiar with even though I know of it. Downloaded the cast recording and like the tracks I've listened to so far.
Booked for Sunday 5pm performance which is very civilised and I think a spot of lunch before is called for.

There are even free tickets around for this show with just a £6.50 admin fee to pay, though they have all gone very quickly both times I received the offer.
Happy with my front row seat for the £55ish I paid last month. I've mixed feelings about the commercial wisdom of these giveaway offers before a show has even opened. If I hadn't already booked, and knew that such deals were around, I'd hold off and await another offer.

I'm going tomorrow matinee on the TodayTix offer. Might be the blindest I've ever gone into a show other than From Here to Eternity which I walked past, liked the look of and booked! (and loved and returned twice!)

Dove Cameron doesn’t turn up to work often sadly. When she did Clueless off Broadway in New York, she only did about 1/3 of the run. She did on average 2-3 a week. She’s no Kelli O’Hara, that’s for sure

I was there tonight and for the first time ever (after hundreds of trips to the theatre) I left at the interval. This wasn’t all the shows fault - the person behind me knocked over their red wine resulting in my bag and all of its contents becoming drenched, I had a girl next to me continually checking her phone, cracking her knuckles and laughing constantly, and there was a broken light by the exit doors constantly flickering which was driving me nuts so I just couldn’t face anymore. The toilets in half of the building weren’t working either.
The part of the show I saw wasn’t necessarily bad, I just found it somewhat bland and the story is a bit...basic. I think this might just not be my sort of show - there’s only so much warbling soprano I can take before it all starts to sound the same. The orchestra sounded great however.
Rob Houchen is a revelation, and it’s worth going just to hear his vocals. If the above events hadn’t happened I would have stayed just to hear him sing some more.

How were the visuals of the show? The set design looked quite basic and he orchestra looked incredible!

The set is relatively basic - it’s just a single curved staircase circling the rear of the stage with a few doors in it, and a large statue to the left. A few chairs etc brought on for various scenes. And a moped/vespa.
(Again I only saw the first half so cant comment if there were any set changes in the second, but I am presuming not as that staircase couldn’t be moved anywhere by the looks of it)

I love Piazza very much, so last night I went with all the concerns we have been expressing on here since it was announced. The original Broadway actors and their replacements were cast in heaven, and I don't think they'll ever be surpassed, so there is little point in dwelling in comparisons. That said, it's a very fine production and Renée can indeed act and Dove can indeed sing. Renée is more of a tragic actress than a comedian, some punchlines get lost and some jokes don't land, but the poignant scenes when she discusses her marriage or her daughter are very moving. And she's very charming on stage, very elegant and beautiful. Dove has a pretty little voice, no one can accuse her of being the next Kelli O'Hara, but she sings it nicely and acts the part well. She doesn't have the technical skills to sustain this kind of singing for 8 shows a week for months of performances, but for a run as short as this she should be fine. The rest of the cast is also very fine, especially Rob, Celinde and Alex Jennings. Lovely set, costumes and great great great orchestra, that makes the show really soar. I'm moving back to Milan on Wednesday so I don't think I'll see it again, which I regret: acting and singing are in fine shape, but there were also a few previewesque issues like props-dropping and line-forgetting. I really recommend it! {Spoiler - click to view}
They probably went even a bit too far with costumes. Renée pretty much changes one for every scene, and some times it's just weird. Towards the end of act 2, when she discovers that her daughter has fled she runs after her, but she nevertheless finds the time to get changed before finding her. No shade, this is probably the kind of parent I'd be, but still... |

Conversely, the matinees start rather too early. What with the size of the venue and fact that the clip I listened to sounded ghastly, it'd take a change of heart to tempt me.

Maybe you could ask them to schedule a show for you at your preferred time? Maybe 3.45pm? 4.10? |

Don't think there are many negatives to this wonderful show, which received a standing ovation last night. But if you felt the excerpt sounded ghastly I suggest it's obviously not the show for you. |
