Little Miss Sunshine Musical - Arcola / Tour

Saw this last night at the Haymarket in Leicester

Sadly very quiet, looked like everyone was moved down into the stalls, which made it maybe 2/3 full.

Really enjoyed it overall, it’s a swift running time done by 9.35 with an interval.

I’ll hold my hands up and say that my Holby City crush on Mark Moraghan is shining bright after last night. He’s got a great set of pipes, as well as guns , and I was genuinely impressed with him on stage.

Paul Keating, I realised he’s the person I’ve seen most on stage, Tommy/Shoppe/Closer and now this, and he gave a great amusing performance and was possibly the most rounded gay character I’ve seen on stage.

Rest of the cast were excellent and the ‘Olive’ we had was great.

Imelda Warren-Green has two scene stealing characters as Linda and Miss California, the latter is genuinely a make you cry with laughter moment.

Sad that it’s another under performing tour and it does make you worry for shows getting out into the country.

But go see if it’s anywhere close to you

Personally i think that theatre needs to do a far better job of advertising their wears. I think we've talked about this before.  But even if you walk past on street level you;d not know what was on or even that there is a theatre really there.  I mean i only found out half these touring shows were even at the Haymarket by chance when i looked at the website for something else.

No sadly not, been away this past week and back at work today so not had the chance.   


In theory, The Haymarket as much better placement than Curve, it's right in the centre of town on a busy street. Yet Curve just seems to be much more of a presence despite being tucked away a little down a side street.

To be fair i can imagine that Curve has a much higher budget for advertising and such and a much bigger presence in the theatre world being a big production house but even so, i do still think The Haymarket Theatre could do a better job selling what they have got to offer.

It’s easy to forgot the turbulent first couple of years of Curve, getting called a white elephant during it’s construction to start with. Took time for it to bed in and become the success it is now. Talking to a friend last night and really it’s under the stewardship of Nikolai that it’s become the force it is.
Curve now effectively has a build in audience, the Curve Members who will go to see a high majority of it’s shows.
The Haymarket will have no budget for marketing I’d imagine but they really should be driving their shows via social media. They’ll be trailers etc that they can use for content and get the awareness out there that it’s back and open for business.
Are you going to this years Sunday At The Musicals there ? Last years show was amazing.

I saw this in Leicester yesterday afternoon in a practically empty theatre. I can’t say I was that enamoured with it. Musically, I felt that the songs didn’t really go anywhere (Grandpa’s song about the joys of sex was embarrassing). I also felt that it was a little muted and flat in delivery, only really coming to life in the pageant.
