If you're telling me that the range of different northern accents is somehow deliberate then that's certainly a theory. of course its a deliberate decision - a west end musical doesn't get workshopped for this long without basic things like accents being addressed! They should have addressed it a bit more then. |

Forgive me for expecting a bit more effort to make it sound authentic. And it'd be far more authentic if they didn't all keep bursting into song all the time. Yorkshire folk didn't do that when Burly were nobbut a lad, ee bah gum. |

Forgive me for expecting a bit more effort to make it sound authentic. And it'd be far more authentic if they didn't all keep bursting into song all the time. Yorkshire folk didn't do that when Burly were nobbut a lad, ee bah gum. Perhaps we could do a musical about people from a village in Wales with a song called "Wales" and allow actors to perform with their native Scottish and Irish accents? Hmmmm? |

But if in that small village one actor sung with a Swansea accent, and another with a Cardiff accent I'm sure an audience could reconcile themselves with that

Also, the real John baker was in fact a geordie. |

Wot a well reasoned argument re accents, of course if it is set in Yorkshire then everybody would have Yorkshire accents, just like in Aladdin everyone has ---- oh wait the argument has fallen apart hasn't it?
Ironic that it has just won best regional production given that the accents are such a problem to some micro managers on here.

It either comes from an inability to read a members profile or its some bizarre homophobic comment on the general type of musical theatre fan. I however am neither female or gay!! No agenda at all. Just a lighthearted throwaway comment about a side of theatre that genuinely interests me as does how this show progresses. As youve clearly read all of my posts you will have read the one where I mentioned my genuine hope that it does well. I am probably nowhere near its demographic to be fair. |
