Sounds great to me, too; maybe this is the musical to end my recent run of disappointments! I had in any case been wanting to see it since reading all the reports from other locations earlier in the year and this clip has made me all the keener.

Well that was a shame. Gary hogged the limelight and the actual cast were only used for oohs and ahs... at the end of the song. Deep sigh.

Nice performance on Strictly. Say what you want about mr Barlow but he sure does know how to right a catchy melody.

It was quite good. I think it was a mistake to have Gary singing it though as his voice is blandness personified. I guess it was the only way to get the publicity. It's quite a pop song by numbers, but as Mark said, it was catchy. |

They didn't even say it was the cast, just Gary Barlow. You can see Joanne Riding 's talent on the video above and here she's doing back up.
It's a decent tune, but you could see those rhymes coming a mile off.

Judging from the comments on Twitter, with people promising to book now they have seen this on Strictly, I do seriously wonder if people think Mr Barlow is actually in the show.

Loved the video of Joanna Riding and Scarborough. Loved the song on Strictly tonight too although as other posters have said Gary Barlow isn't in the show but I suppose without him performing the number would never have got the air time on the BBC.
With such a strong cast and (if those two numbers are anything to go by) a strong score this could be a surprise hit! I hope so.

He did the same with Finding Neverland, performing the songs himself to promote in America, even though he isn't a name there.

To his credit, there are now 3 songs from The Girls that I am familair with before the show even opens. Dare, Yorkshire and Scarborough (are they all one word titles??)
How many brand new shows can you say that about? He's certainly putting in the work to get it out there into the public.

Dare sounds nothing like that when it's performed in the show. Not when it was in Salford with a five piece band anyway.

As others have said there is no way on earth the song (which did sound nice) would have got that exposure if Barlow wasnt singing it. I admit the beeb could have made clear who was in his backing singers but hey ho. If it gets more people booking for the show all the better.

Bit of a waste for the "Girls" from the show by the Beeb - didn't even mention them!!
Still may be bums on seats if the Take That fans are thinking of Barlows Baps???

I must say I'm struggling to muster up much enthusiasm for this show and the Strictly appearance didn't do anything to change that. It was all very nice but wasn't something that made me think that I had to switch on the interweb and book some tickets. Unless you were already a Gary Barlow fan, in which case you've probably already booked.
I can smell deals-a-plenty with this show so I think I'll wait until then.

Based on reviews, images, videos, audio and performances i have seen this far throughout performances and promition, this show doesn't quite scream that kind of long runner to me. I imagine it will run a year or so/year and a half. The other trouble being the theatre it is going into is a popular one for new shows as it is not a big West End house per-se and can be in high demand, so the first signs of major dips in sales could mean the end comes thick and fast unfortunately, as a show which may scream a bigger hit may bw able to take its place. |
