Ok, I'll bite. Why do you hope that? Ah only because I really like the story of Calendar Girls and I think it should be shared on stage. It is a very nice story but also very tender. There hasn't been a proper British musical that has done well in a while so that's why I hope this time this is the one!  I think you meant to say you hope it IS the next long running show, rather than it ISN'T. |

I know people are weary that this show might not last but I honestly don't see why that could be the case.
Okay it doesn't have celebrities but the story is VERY well known in the UK after the film and shows like Kinky Boots opened without celebrities in the cast but still did very well at the box office.
Also Gary Barlow writing he music is a big pull too. Theatregoers who like the amazing MT who have been cast will visit the show. Also the publicity for this show has been very good. Strictly Come Dancing will have boosted the show's profile as will their appearance on the Royal Variety.

I have alot of friends who have seen it or are seeing it But it is selling, but I wouldn't say very well. It sells and makes its runnint amount it needs, and does well on weekends, but doesn't do so much on the weekdays. Thats not to say it is closing tomorrow, it will run still as it is still making money, but it isn't the biggest hit in the land. Also, its not a fair comparison really. Kinky Boots wans't just the film when it arrived, it had a huge success on Broadway, has won every major Best Musical award, had a Grammy winning Cast Recording and had a certian lady called Cyndi Lauper attached, who is a living legend worldwide. It had a smart advertisment with the black and white pictures with the red boots and the word of mouth has been fantastic. For example, loads of my friends have said to me they want to see Kinky Boots, I haven't heard a wisper of The Girls , not even on here really... bar you of course George. |

This seems to be selling really well, especially the matinees (which was to be expected). I haven't seen the show and not sure if I will, but it's really nice to see a brand new British musical with a sensible pricing strategy, doing really well. I'm sure that if they were charging £75 for "top price" and then Premiums scaling up to £125, it would fall flat on its arse.

I do agree with you here and I think the producers are so so so clever in not doing premium seats. I'm pretty sure it would still sell but it means more people will be and to see the show which is what theatre is all about!! I too have seen this is selling well which I'm glad about and I hope it has a respectable run, it's a great story! |

Joanna Riding singing Scarborough is absolutely stunning. Heard there has been a lot of work done on the book so very much looking forward to it

The show fits the Phoenix well as it isn't too big but not too small. Good cast and, like you said, great creative team. Yeah the advance hasn't been really good, people are underestimating the amount of tickets they have sold |

It's not very good though. how do you know? out of town tryouts dont always represent the finished product. that being said, it did more than alright with the critics when it was up north. |
