Really enjoyed this tonight!
Katherine has a beautiful voice and was really engaging. Whole cast incredibly talented - Jack wasn’t the best vocally but was very funny. It is a slightly vanilla show but does have a lot of heart and some great moments. ‘Used to be mine’ is a real showstopper and the Lyrics speak to a lot of people I’m sure. Nice to see Sara there too!
Agree with others it felt far from a dress rehearsal but I’m sure having a lead who is already confident with the show helps that, Jenna is on the stage a lot.
Most new musicals that open invite people to their dress rehearsal. This just happened that the dress circle has ‘competition winners’ and the stalls had friends and family. It won’t make tomorrow any less special.
Who else was there tonight?

It was in GREAT shape for a dress rehearsal. Just a few dropped props and a few knocked bits of set.
Stand outs for me were Laura Baldwin and Jack McBrayer. Marisha Wallace needs to land her character more but I’m sure that will come. And whoever plays the nurse is killing it.. almost stole the show
Very pleasantly surprised.McPhee was great too. Dare I say I preferred her to Jessie Mueller. My boyfriend was left utterly cold by it however and he loves the film.
Nice that Sara Bareilles came onstage at the beginning too.

I also enjoyed early on cups being dropped and promptly cleaned up and did I imagine this or did Katherine get some lyrics wrong in ‘use to be mine’?

You know what, I’m getting a little irritated now. Probably unreasonably, but I booked the first preview as soon as it went on sale for the excitement and the experience of it being their first time in front of an audience. And now it’s not. Everything on social media suggests that tonight is being treated like a “normal” first preview would be with Sara Bareilles taking to the stage etc. Even if they do all that again tomorrow, it doesn’t change the fact that we’re not the first audience to see this cast in action, and it isn’t the first full audience for them. The “specialness” is gone. If I’d known I wasn’t booking for that, I’d have booked for a day that was more convenient for me. There are bigger things to worry about in life I think.

VERY Plus there are so many distractions watching these inviteddress rehearsals. Creative teams talking loudly, the photographer going backwards and forwards taking pictures.

First curtian call. This curtain call is cute because it’s def not as polished as the broadway ones with all the cast pointing for Lulu to run on stage! Only Kat McPhee did it cos she knows the drill haha! Sounds like people who went tonight had a fab time and there was a lot of energy. Lot of great feedback on twitter.

Good to get a lyric flub out of the way in the final rehearsal lol! Things like that always remind me of this epic story Jonathan Groff told about his biggest on stage f*** up! !! So funny

Never mind all this about the actual show and what we are all here to talk about....let's get on the the serious issue of whether the pies are nice?

Really disorganised here. They didn’t allocate the seats, and the auditorium was supposed to open at 7 but it didn’t until just now. Spent the last 40 mins squashed into the foyer with no room to move, or indeed put my stick at one point! We are finally in now though, row g of the circle and the view seems really good (last time I was here was for Chicago!). We got given a badge each, and there are people dressed in waitress outfits selling mini pies! Great atmosphere, although we seem to be sat next to some people eating a mini picninc in their seats (which is currently a prawn sandwich and crisps!) Sorry but you attended a dress rehearsal... they had far more important things to worry about than the people who bought a FREE ticket to see a rehearsal.... dress runs rarely start and finish on time. Hope you enjoyed nonetheless :-)

Booking has now been extended to October 19th. Looking forward to seeing it tonight. One of those shows that I haven’t seen or heard much from compared to something like Come From Away which I listen to all the time.

I think it will find an audience but it will be a show that discounts considerably.

Apologies I know this has been mentioned already but is there an official date for when KMP finishes her run in this?

Apologies I know this has been mentioned already but is there an official date for when KMP finishes her run in this? She's just doing a three month run, so its looking to be one of the last weekends in May. No offical date yet I don't think.

Apologies I know this has been mentioned already but is there an official date for when KMP finishes her run in this? I’ve heard it is a 12 week run (although I don’t know for certain) so maybe only until early May? Until they extended the booking period I assumed the end of May, which may still be the case I guess.

So it 100% smells of cinnamon! Nice little touch with stickers on the programmes that say I was at the first performance of Waitress at the Adelphi Theatre.

I wouldn’t get too excited about the pies.they are tiny and £6. A rip off. And they LITERALLY put tons of cinnamon in the oven they heat them up with so the theatre reeks of it.
Also as others have said- the stage is really high. The highest I’ve ever seen for a musical actually!

Sorry if I missed this but with Lucie Jones everywhere on broadway billboards as the new Jenna does that mean we will get her here after Katherine?

Massive roar went up just before curtain, I am such a defus I thought it was Diane Paulus to do one of those first performance’s speeches to apologies if there is going to be any hitches, as it is the first show, then I thought she looked rather young, she invited as to get our cell phones out, then promptly told us a minute later to put them away, also she said make sure you hang around for an extra special encore.
Confused why is Diane Paulus doing an extra special encore?

Really enjoying it so far! Sara Bareilles came out at the beginning and said that there is a special surprise at the end of the curtain call.
