Casting, Clive Rowe for Tevye, ideally. Nah, he's getting a lad in (Panto at Hackney again). I think there ought to be a Strallen as Tevye daughter fest, get them all on stage! Maybe Auntie Bonnie could play Mum. Or the Grandma risen from the Dead.

I don't mind the show. But god it's depressing. Will be interesting at the Menier - I might go to a preview.

The art work for this looks really crap. Almost as if they are trying to discourage punters

Thankfully this show will not tempt me back to the Menier. I hate the bench seating where they try to squeeze too many people on at ridiculous prices. The last time I went I was sat next to a huge guy who encroached massively into my space with man spreading legs. I did think of putting my hand on his thigh to get him to shift but didn't have the nerve! So I was just squashed for hours!

At least the set menu in the Menier's restaurant takes care of itself for this one.

A quick check shows that I saw it in 1994 at the London Palladium, Topol playing Tevye and his daughter playing .. his daughter ... (Adi Topol played Chava). So did I. Topol sang "If I Were a Rich Man" so s l o w l y that by the time he finished the song it was sometime in 1996 and we'd skipped 1995 altogether.

I HATE THIS SHOW!!!!!!!! I’ve seen it 3 times and hated it every time. It’s just so tedious and boring! ZZZZZZZZ
It can be - but if it's done well it can also be very moving indeed. Nunn is going to have to work hard to come up with something better than Gemma Bodinetz's revival of the show at the Liverpool Everyman last year. I wasn't the only person moved to tears by the final scene.
Having said that, my favourite Bock/Harnick show is 'She Loves Me'. And I might still be a little bit bitter that the Menier's (perfect) revival didn't yield a cast album, but never mind.

It just looks like the usual menier type of artwork to be honest. I'd be surprised if they don't cast a Jewish actor in the lead

It's a gorgeous show if done well but Nunn is totally the wrong director for it, so expect it to be ponderous, self-serious, and stodgy. Why he won't just retire and rest on his (considerable) laurels is one of the great imponderables, especially since everything he has touched in the past few years has turned to dross -- "Dessert" at Southwark Playhouse, anyone?

Only ever seen the film and never seen it on the stage. Can't say I have any desire to either I'm afraid. It's a bit drawn out and dreary.

Peter Polycarpou as Tevye would be my choice.

Peter Polycarpou as Tevye would be my choice. Inspired choice. I'd go and see that. And Maureen Lipman as Yente.

oh God please don't put La Lipman anywhere near it --some of us are still recovering from her Aunt Eller, also directed by Nunn -- oy vey!
maybe he'll see sense and bring over his beloved Judy Kuhn to play Golde, since she played the same part in the recent Bway revival with Danny Burstein

In the case of 'Fiddler', she's obvious casting for that particular role - maybe too obvious - but she'd be very funny.

Polycarpou is inspired. Of course, Nunn once approached Henry Goodman about doing Tevye after they both did Merchant of Venice together, and Goodman declined stating that he didn't want to be a 'professional Jew' for the rest of his career or something to that extent... several years later Goodman saw sense and finally did the role for the 2007 production. So Nunn has obviously wanted to do Fiddler for quite some time.

Peter Polycarpou and I'm there! Casting the daughters will also be interesting, Alexandra Silbur's Hodel was fabulous and will take a lot of living up to for me.
