Seriously? Dear God almighty.
Well there's another opportunity for Marcus Brigstocke. He could double-up as both Tevye and The Fiddler (his previous experience of tightrope walking will come in very handy with the latter).
I would predict at least one Strallen in there as one of Tevye's daughter's, Damian Humbley as a much too old Motel (or possibly a much too young Tevye), Sophie Louise Dann as Golde and Hannah Waddingham as Lazar Wolf's ex-wife (again useful flying skills acquired from her turn as The Witch in The Wizard of Oz) or vice versa. Or possibly Jenna Russell could do the honours. The casting at TCF always seems to be more or less the same people.
How many more times can Fiddler be revived and reinvented? Wonderful as it is (as a child my parents were playing the album, along with Funny Girl,on repeat), I think it needs a rest and if this info is correct, I agree with mrbarnaby,TCF do seem to have given up doing anything other than money-spinning revivals and Forbidden Broadway in various different guises.

Hmm. Ive said this quite a few times on this board that its a shame that the chichetser production didn’t transfer as that was great and a show I loved a lot and deserved to. Can’t see it working as well in such as small place like the chocolate factory as it feels like one of those shows that needs a big ensemble to work well. They are probably waiting till the sondheim shows can be revived again just finding filler shows.

WTAF?!! Really? We've just had Fiddler, two of them in the UK last year. I'm guessing the prospective Chichester transfer is completely dead in the water then...

Phew I was worried I wouldn't be able to get tickets, but if everyone on here is giving it a miss, I stand a chance.
Thank you Mr Barnaby for sharing this wonderful news.

That's some money saved although do you literally mean this is their next show? or it's their Christmas one? (assuming the latter)

The Menier seems to have gotten complacent with their Christmas musicals, doing Fiddler suggests they’re looking for an easy money spinner.

Is this gospel? Can't find anything on 'tinternet to back it up. Also it's unheard of for them to do 2 musicals back to back. Always a play before the Christmas musical. Not saying it's made up but it's sort of come out of the blue hasn't it. It's actually one musical that I've never had a desire to see. Was never a fan of the film or the music.

I meant it’s the Xmas musical.
It’s not been announced yet but offers are going out at the moment. I know because a friend of mine was offered it- and promptly turned it down.

Can’t see it working as well in such as small place like the chocolate factory as it feels like one of those shows that needs a big ensemble to work well. It worked beautifully in a small space in the Liverpool Everyman last year. The most moving production of it I've seen, and by quite some distance.

There have been quite enough productions of this quite honestly.

Marvellous. I've always loved a fiddler on the roof. Especially when they're making my sunrise. Except during a thunderstorm. Then it gets dangerous.

Joel Grey's production in Yiddish is apparently very good. Random thought of the day.

If they’re going to do a Yiddish version, then they best doing that at the Park Theatre instead. I would be intrigued to see that.
A piece I grew into, as i used to detest it, but the recent Broadway version blew me away, so was dreading the version in Chichester, but also blew me away. However I would agree with the posters on here that says it would work better in a bigger space.
So odd one for David Babini to chose, I cannot see there being an appetite for a Broadway revival, as too recent. I would have assumed that David would listen to producers for what they want to revive in the West End and Broadway. Musicals in the Menier lose money, they only can recoup on transfers, so would have thought he may plunge for something like The Music Man or Wonderful Town etc, that may have better legs.

Ughh I'm currently trying to find plausible excuses for not seeing a local production that people I know are in. That'll more than fill my Fiddler quota for a decade.
Ah well, at least I don't have to do the 'HOW MUCH LADS?' ticket buying at the Chocolate Factory on sale day then.

Anyway, it’s the Menier Chocolate Factory... (And it’ll be difficult improving on the cft version from last year.)

Saw the recent Broadway revival and enjoyed it, but to me this seems like a lazy and uninspired choice from the chocolate factory.

I’m not excited about Trevor Numnn but I am about Fidler. Great score, story and still as powerful all these years later

Oh god, it’s going to be 4 hours long!
“Do you love me?”
[pause]
[even more meaningful pause]
[Tevye does some business with his hands]
[pause]
“No.”

It has been done too much but it's still a very great show. Let's not lose sight of that.

Oops apologies if I spelt Menier/Mernier wrong! Your not the first Mr B...and they always put it in the thread title so that you have no choice but to look at it every time you visit the board. It destroys my every waking moment...😏🙄
