Has anybody noticed the apparent lack of tickets?
Surely it hasn't sold this well already?!
Trying to find some row A seats in the stalls- it seems they're only £20 but I can't seem to find them on any ticket agencies website! Although on ATG and the Menier website they are clearly listed on there just unavailable, like the majority of the seating plan!

That usually means they’re loaded into the system as being £20 and will be sold as dayseats |

Some might. I wouldn't.
I happened to be passing the Playhouse on Wednesday lunchtime, and on a whim I called in and was able to get the one available £20 stalls seat (yes, N24) for a matinee in May. The selection of available seats on the seatplan for the performance I wanted - which incidentally loaded faster on my (not top-end) phone than on the ticket agent's computer screen - was so paltry that I assume they must be holding a lot of seats back to release in stages (and it looks like the seats between N24 and the wall are also going to be £20 - presumably they're releasing just one seat in that bracket now to force people who don't want to see it alone into a higher price bracket). A West End production would only sell that quickly with a huge star in one of the leads, and in terms of box-office draw Andy Nyman and Judy Kuhn aren't in the same league as, say, Jude Law or Hugh Jackman.
(Looking forward to seeing Ms. Kuhn, though. It's... omigod... thirty years this spring since I saw her in 'Metropolis'. I'm old.)

I happen to get one ticket for a saturday performance (Menier production. To anyone who´ve seen the show, how´s the staging? I have a very side seat on row B. Will I miss a lot or do they play to every side of the auditorium? Thanks a lot!

You will be fine. They play to all 3 sides and it's a great intimate setting.

Yes, I was at the extreme side (nearest the huts) and the view was fine - everything is played in the centre, the huts on stage are just used for entrances and exits really.

Well. I've always been partial to a fiddle on a roof but this one was particularly fabulous and I didn't have to brush up against a chimney for it! I always forget what a great score 'Fiddler' has and in this cast it's in safe hands. The band are AMAZEBALLS too.
I almost threw on my kippah and joined in during 'To Life' and while they almost kneecapped several patrons on the front row, the dancers in this number are outstanding. The set is simple but effective and the 'Sunrise, Sunset' and the wedding sequence is just heartstoppingly beautiful, both in performance and lighting. And don't even get me started on 'The Bottle Dance' sequence. Oy!
The cast are utterly glorious and Andy Nyman gives the best leading man performance in London's glitzy West End around, they should be throwing awards at him he's so good. Topol is so synonymous with the role of Tevye but Andy makes it his own and gives us a younger, funnier Tevye but still with a heart as big as an ox. He's matched by Judy Kuhn as Golde and that voice of hers is still a thing of glory. She's also so gracious to Andy during the bows, what a class act. There are also stunning performances from Molly Osborne, Harriet Bunton and Kirsty McLaren as Tzeitel, Hodel and Chava and even better are Joshua Gannon as Motel and Stewart Clarke as Perchik. In fact there's not a weak one among the whole lot of 'em.
But that ending? Oh my. It breaks your heart. And I shall be heading to the Playhouse to see it again when it transfers to experience it all over again.

I did see Topol -- my first play in London, 1971 -- but that trip was colored by having also seen the extraordinary Cicely Courtneidge in Move Over Mrs. Markham, so I don't remember much about the London Fiddler. I saw a recent Broadway revival with Danny Burstein. It was ok, but I'm looking forward to seeing the production at the Playhouse. |

I also saw the Danny Burstein revival and really enjoyed it. Have heard some great things about this new production though so hope it doesn’t lose any of its charm from the chocolate factory.

I remember Zero as more subtle and low key than Burstein, whom I felt was a bit OTT -- too much shtick. Burstein has recently replaced Norbert Leo Butz as Alfred Doolittle in My Fair Lady.
There were some great people in the original cast: Maria Karnilova, the Ballet Theater dancer who had recently created the role of Tessie Tura in Gypsy played Golde; Beatrice Arthur was Yente; Austin Pendleton, now a respected acting teacher/actor/director played Motel; and Leonard Frey played Mendel, the rabbi's son. Frey went straight from Fiddler into the premiere of The Boys in the Band, where he originated the role of Harold.

B20 & B21 Stalls?

Getting tickets for this seems very annoying, they've finally released a load of extra tickets including the front row for the start of the run but of course they aren't available anywhere other than ATG (that I can see at a glance). I was hoping they'd end up as day seats but since they appear to be going on sale I was considering getting one with a voucher I was given for theatreticketsdirect since they aren't as cheap as I'd have hoped, but of course they aren't on their website. Guess I'm back to hoping unsold ones become day seats or end up on todaytix. Funnily on the Menier website which seems to be using the ATG system to sell tickets doesn't have the same seats available but the front row is in one of the shades of red which could possibly be the same red as the £20 seats, but it's hard to tell. At least I've just got a £20 back of stalls seat so at least I'll see it.
Not even sure I want to sit in the front row there since I did many years ago and it was like looking at a wall with a few visible heads on stage, then again it was ages ago and the configuration for this is completely different. It had better be a better view than that now for the prices they are asking (I had a £10 day seat when I just saw heads so can't really complain).
