anyone know if we can expect any new West End recordings for a trailer? suddenly receiving a lot of promotion through online ads for the show, and as much as I do love Willemijn, still seeing the German promo footage after years of being a fan pains me a little Don't worry, if you have enough of that we occasionally get a shot of Idina to spice things up a bit. Agree with the most recent post, they don't bother as they don't need to. Wicked has almost always sold on the brand not on their casting, so it doesn't matter who's got green make up on in a trailer with the OBC recording playing over it.

As said above, I'd find it very unlikely. There's no need for a new EPK (those things are very expensive to make.).
Still photo shoots are reimbursed/profitable with brochure sales and used for theatre folio posters. EPK's are an expensive luxury for the XXth cast of a long-running show.
Your average punter wouldn't know or care if it's advertising an Idina Menzel or a Laura Pick. The show is identical.

Very strange at the lack of cast announcement. I’d assume that there won’t be many changes based on social media footage of rehearsals today, but either way, you’d assume they’d announce something.

I believe the full lead cast is returning? I've seen many other cast members over the last week or so posting about re-learning the script etc.
With how laid back Wicked are, I imagine no announcement will be made if only a handful of ensemble members have decided not to return.
I'm very excited to see the show again. My last time seeing Wicked was September 2018, so a trip is well overdue now!

Even if none of the cast change they should still make a casting announcement for publicity, if nothing else. They seem happy to fly under the radar as a word of mouth show and do the bare minimum effort.
The fantastic new publicity shots of Alice and Sophie a few years ago being a very rare exception.

When I saw this last about six or more years ago (it was Jennifer DiNoia, she was incredible) the show looked tired and stale.
It was screaming for a closure to bring the director back in, get the casting back to being fresh and exciting with new faces, and re-work some scenes.
They've had all this time because of Covid and a chance to recast it from scratch and go all out in a worldwide search for a world class reopening cast.
Why do I suspect it'll be the same old faces, the same old blocking and the same half-full stalls midweek.

I am a huge Wicked fan but I would have to agree. They seem happy just plodding on with, it seems, minimal effort. That's how it looks from the outside anyway. A few new little twists and turns would be wonderful but I am not holding my breath.

I agree. Especially as the casting on Broadway has been relatively exciting in recent years - mostly new lead Elphabas rather than promoting the standby for the last 2 years etc. Always seems like the US team don’t care very much about the West End production.

They used to fly over and knock out any individuality or deviation from the score.
I was in a workshop with a past lead over lockdown and I asked them how much leeway they had in developing their character.
Basically none at all. I find that sad.

Tbf I’m only going as I think the first night back should have a good atmosphere.
And then I’ll wait for a new cast 😬🤣😬

I find that interesting though because the Elphabas in recent years do play it and sing it slightly differently. There's Alice with all her riffing.

The Wicked in Concert special that aired in the US yesterday is on YouTube. On those performances I wouldn't be disappointed if Ariana DeBose, Ali Stroker and Isaac Powell were all cast in the film.
Some of the other performances were odd and the Menzel/Chenoweth duet was recorded years ago - either they filmed their hosting parts in different cities (the performances were spread out), or the rumours about how well they get on (or rather don't) are true.
It was good to hear some of the songs though, and a ticket for re-opening night may have found its way into my basket in the TodayTix sale...

2 weeks to go & still nothing. This must be the worst social media team for any show

Some of the performances in the Wicked special were great, with Isaac Cole Powell being a standout in my opinion. Would love to see him actually play the role on Broadway!
Back to matters in the UK, I believe that the full lead cast are returning, so it seems Wicked aren't making too much of a fuss about a big cast announcement.
I'm hoping that holidays for the leads are posted to the website in the coming weeks. I'm seeing the show in December so want to make ensure I book to see certain cast members.

There’s a cast change happening early in the new year. What roles? Wicked usually does 10-12 month contracts.

Yes, some people were mid-contract when Covid closed it.

I think the cast change would’ve been in July and they closed in March so it’ll probably be a matter of people just finishing up what they had left to do.

I’m really glad about this, I never saw Sophie as Glinda because I basically took a 2 year break from Wicked London between 2017 and 2019, but I can understand why some people will be fed up!
