As Laura is scheduled to be on all next week, I'm hoping the time off will give Nikki a chance to recoup and come back fit to fight!

I'm back in February so I'll make sure to write a review here. I haven't seen Wicked since the cast change of the Alice and Sophie cast, so it'll be good to see a different cast on the AV stage anyway.

The same discussions have been going on on here for months and the same things have been said (especially when Nikki came off social media).
I know some of the cast have labelled some of the things that have been speculated as "hilarious rumours".
That's all they are, rumours.
The fans who continue to hang around the show 24/7 think they are privvy to what goes on behind the scenes but in reality they have not got a clue, especially these days.
Unless Nikki comes out and says something herself, speculating about a performers mental health on (a very public) social media is bad form really.
I just hope all is well. I have lot of time for her, a very nice person and has one hell of a voice.

We may see a return from Nikki on Monday when she is scheduled back after her holiday ... time will tell! |

Wicked have announced on Instagram that Nikki will be withdrawing from the show due to personal reasons. Laura is lead for the foreseeable future.

I am actually devastated for Nikki. I met her a few times during the tour and she was an absolute angel. A total powerhouse vocally and she really had such a lovely portrayal of Elphaba!
I'm wishing her nothing but the best for the future!

Again not altogether surprised given her attendance record, but realised that something serious must be up.
Sad to see her go, but I'm glad they've shifted Laura into the lead, rather than be silly and fly someone in from a US/UK tour.

The statement is worded to sound like Laura will be lead for the rest of the contract, I assume due to yesterday’s Instagram posts Rebecca is currently the standby. It’ll be interesting to see who comes in as the new standby, understudy or lead depending on what’s happens!

I think Aimee Fisher or Amy Webb would be most likely as a standby, seeing as both were in recent London/UK tour casts.

That's such a shame, to land such a dream role and have to withdraw. Hopefully she can return some day. On the other hand, I'm happy that Laura will get the principle credit, she's certainly earned it.

I have lots of time for Nikki and am so sad for her that this has happened. I send her nothing but the very best.
Also happy for Laura who has been a very consistent powerhouse when Nikki has been away.

Website has changed. Laura is now listed as lead Elphaba, with Nicholas McLean as Boq. There is no new standby Elphaba as of yet, but I imagine they will draft someone in e.g. Amy Webb, as they cant go 6 months until cast change an Elphaba short.

I would LOVE a return for Amy Webb! But this is Wicked, I wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t replace Laura and relied on the 2 Rebecca’s plus emergency covers! When Natalie A left they left it as lead and 2 understudies, and when Sarah McN left they had Rosa on and a swing in her place, but I understand Elphaba is a bigger role and this is a longer period of time. |
