The lead actor constantly flaunting his excess body fat whilst the audience laugh isn't that funny and it's visually distressing to see for me Awww, yes that does sound very distressing. Have a nice cup of tea and a lay down. How very awful for you. |

If people can post comments on the Half a sixpence thread That actors are dreamy I don't see why the opposite doesn't apply I made a general broad post Some people take everything personally and are just offended by everything |

I agree this is noisy senseless and repetitive
Once the parents and families of the child cast are bored of attending
The audience may at least improve but at the moment they are worse than pigs
One woman near me
Was filming whole scenes on her phone
Literally 10 mins at a time
Even after the usher warned her directly
I am sorry but I am superior to this sort of theatre
It's like a sh*t version of child BGT
You have to be a pretty desperate parent to allow your child to be in this

I was there tonight and had a blast, I'm a fan of the film and have enjoyed the cast recording but seeing it live with an audience is something else. After years of doing shows which were serious in tone, it's great that ALW has done a show which is just fun and doesn't take itself seriously.

The website says the previews are until Sunday 13th November, and it appears blank for Monday 14th which I'm assuming is the press night. Or it could be Tuesday 15th as it is blank as well, but that could be because there are no performances on Tuesdays (excluding Christmas dates). |

After years of doing shows which were serious in tone, it's great that ALW has done a show which is just fun and doesn't take itself seriously. Oh Jon I was there too, where was you sitting. First impression the set looked like something that Kenwright would put in the Regent at Stoke On Trent, thought it looked very cheap compared with Broadway which I saw last year and came across as every expense has been spared. Initially it appeared as cynical that because the show got good press on Broadway, they could then use a cheaper imitation in London, but then I got more into it, with excellent performances and score/book. Thought both David Fynn (who virtually never left the stage, for the whole show and did a lot of physical exertion all through, so maybe a medical clue there, why he was sweating so much) and Florence Andrews really impressed and both were excellent as good as both leads on Broadway. The kids do they really play their instruments? There is a house band there too, during the last song 'School of Rock' the house band were even supporting the kids leaning over the balcony clapping. The kids just basically want to Rock. What makes this show really take flight is an excellent score by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Glenn Slater, with some great songs - but this usurped by a brilliant book by Jullian Fellowes, who added some brilliant humour to the show, with a send up of Cats that was hilarious, reference to Book of Mormon and that creative team type sense of humour on peodophilia, never mind though it was done well, tastefully and was hilarious. So all my misgivings with a cheap looking set, which was just sliding panels on a scaffold, won me over, just like it did Broadway. 5 Stars. |

It felt like old 1970s ALW, but in a fun, unabashedly loose way. |

None? People can be thin & still have type 2 if it runs in their family. |

It's all go over at camp SoR and they've only just begun!

Could be me going mad, but I thought I saw WestEndUnderstudies tweet that Gary Trainor would be on as Dewey Finn this afternoon, but they've now just tweeted that Joel Montague will be making his debut as Dewey Finn this afternoon, with a couple of swings on as well. It's all go over at camp SoR and they've only just begun! Isn't it unusual to have understudies on during previews? |

I saw this on Wednesday night and really enjoyed it. I thought David Finn was a convincing Dewey and the kids are so talented and looked like they were having the time of their lives. A few songs have been cut since the Broadway album release but didn't miss them, to be honest. I was in stalls row D 13 and 14 and these were really central seats with a fantastic view.

Tonight, we'll even get two Deweys. The paper sheet in the box office says it's Gary Trainor, and the screen in the foyer says it's Joel Montague. I'm confused. Not in a Book of Mormon sort of way though  Edit: confusion over, they've updated the foyer screen. |

Saw the matinee today, and didn't realise we had an understudy on. Overall I enjoyed it - I thought the most effective bits were when the kids took centre stage, as I wasn't over keen on the man-child main adult character. Not the actor's fault, and I'm sure the characterisation was faithful to the film (which I haven't seen), he just annoyed me.
I was a bit irked by the scene where he suddenly grabbed and kissed Miss Mullins without warning - could we please stop perpetuating the myth that women welcome that sort of thing? I was expecting her to slap him when that happened, instead she actually thanked him! FFS!

I'm kind of surprised they haven't already. I don't think he said "first female president" - just said she could run next month and he would vote for her? Tonight he said both. She could be the first female president and that he'd vote for her if she ran next week. Fingers crossed they'll have to change this line after Tuesday. |
