I wonder if she'll do more musical theatre after that?

She's already doing Little Mermaid at the Hollywood Bowl (Ursula). Maybe this will lead to more. Very interesting casting, I'm quite excited.

Really not a fan of Guys & Dolls, but this casting makes me want to see it. Could be crafty casting by the producers. Should also bring in a younger audience.

Bizarre, but maybe brilliant. First I was shocked, but now, when I let go of the picture of Miss Adelaide I have in mind, it could work out.

I wonder who's going to be her Nathan?

Her Nathan is Nigel Lindsey. This is bonkers casting, but as others have said, once I remove Sophie Thompson and Sam Spiro from my mind this is perfectly plausible!

No, Nigel finishes at the same time as Samantha Spiro. Richard Kind leaves at the end of this week. I imagine the next Nathan will be younger?

Mad casting but as others have said this could work. I got the feeling bookings were flagging a bit so this will give sales a boost plus it will bring in a much younger audience. Not sure what they will think of the show though as its certainly more of a traditional musical. I really had no idea who she was and it was only when she appeared on some award ceremony recently and I thought she was very funny that brought her to my attention. Might need another visit to see the show for me.

This could be like the 2006 production that just kept getting stunt casted. This could be only the beginning.

I think this is inspired! She can sing and my god has she got the comedy chops for it. Surely this will get people in?! She's a 21st century Hollywood mega-star. VERY exciting to be having her on the West End - I'll certainly be trying to schedule in a visit!!
Also, booking has been extended by 3 months to January 7th, 2017.

I'm a bit speechless really! I love her in the Pitch Perfect films but my brain is really struggling to see her in that role. They will have to make Nathan younger, but then they can't really go too young cos they are suppose to have been engaged for 14years.
It's certainly a very clever move by the producers cos sales wise that show is falling on its arse, and this will most certainly boost tickets.

Utterly bonkers, but I love her so I'll have to revisit this musical to see her take on the role.

Thought sales were low. I think it ha to be the last extension. Are Oliver and Siobhan scheduled to stay on? I thought Samantha wouldnve stayed on longer.

They'll do very well during the 8 weeks Rebel is in the show.

They'll need to keep up the casting until Jan though, chances of it being extended again?

This is amazing casting. Certainly unexpected but she is a great comedic actress and singer. If she is gonna debut, she may as well do it in one of the iconic leading lady roles haha. Much as I didn't really enjoy it in December, Rebel would be a reason for me to go back, definitely.

I find it interesting that they've extended. Unless of course they have an even bigger name up their sleeves to replace Rebel. Cos yes she will boost sales in the 8 weeks she's in it, once she leaves, if they don't get the right person to replace her, I think sales will drop right back down again

To be completely honest, she doesn't even have to be good. People are going to pay to see Rebel anyway and say she was amazing because they are fans of her. That said, I think she will be great regardless. She will definitely have the comedy down!

How utterly bizarre. I swore I would never see this production again but this has possibly tempted me. The problem is I don't really rate her as an actress. I find her incredibly funny as a person though. Has she ever done an American accent before?

Was going to skip the Phoenix incarnation, having seen it at Chichester and the Savoy and will also be catching it on tour, but this has me intrigued enough to have booked to see it during her run. Thanks as always to TheatreMonkey for deal info

This news comes as a pleasant surprise, as I was not overly excited about seeing this in July. Now with Rebel in role I am very much looking forward to the show. A much needed lift I feel.
She really has a strong following, which can only mean great things for otherwise disappointing ticket sales until now. I hadn't even considered her for a part in a West End show, and it now makes me wonder whether she will make an appearance in Cinderella at the Palladium? She would certainly be a big draw, especially if her G&D run is a success.
