Guys and Dolls is running at the Savoy Theatre until Saturday, 12th March before transferring to the Phoenix Theatre, where it'll open on Saturday, 19th March. In parallel, the show is going on an UK and Ireland tour.

I will not be happy if we get a rushed and cheaply put together set on tour now it is staying in London.

I haven't seen this production and although I love Guys and Dolls I'm not sure I will. The Donmar production was just so great in my opinion. I fear this one won't be able to fill those big shoes for me. Guess I'll wait for the cast annoucement for the Phoenix run and only go in case anyone interesting is doing it.

They are going to need big names to keep this selling. It is no longer an automatic seller for most venues - sadly.

I saw this production a few days ago, and as hard as the cast tried, it really didn't seem to engage the audience, which I found really odd as the theatre was full.

Anne Vosser (casting director) has tweeted she's casting for the tour, so presumably that means the west end cast will move to the Phoenix.

Yes, choreographer Andrew Wright has also tweeted something along the lines of "a new cast will be going out on the road for the UK Tour" so that does seem to confirm it!

They'll have their work cut out to find not 1 but 2 Skys of Jamie Parker's calibre. I for one will be waiting to see who they cast where before deciding whether to see it at the Phoenix or on tour. As I'm not that keen on Sophie Thompson's take on Miss Adelaide & was not that impressed by Siubhan Harrison's singing I feel inclined to see whichever one thy aren't in!

I have finally seen this. Unfortunately from the very cheap seats up in the Circle. Some of the songs are great, especially in the second half but this drags. I found the Gangsters and the weirdly twee dance interludes by the girls to be very, very long.
Jamie Parker is growing on me though. Amazing voice.

If anyone's wondering about seeing it, catch it before it loses Jamie Parker, he's easily the best thing about the cast. I'm one of the ones that doesn't 'get' Sophie Thompson's performance, I've never really understood the hunched, wheezing thing she does. The production is entertaining enough, I saw it on a matinee and it was a fun enough afternoon but definitely doesn't reinvent the wheel for this show. Saw this last night, liked it but didn't love it. Jamie Parker was easily the best thing about it and the production was ten times more engaging whenever he was on stage. Fab actor and incredible voice. I didn't really take to Siobhan Harrison, there was something grating about her voice, and Sophie Thompson was just irritating. I liked David Haig though. I didn't love the score, except for a couple of songs: Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat was fab, but some of the other songs were forgettable. Sometimes the show did drag a bit.
I don't have any other productions of Guys and Dolls to compare this one to (except for a school production I saw about fifteen years ago and have almost completely forgotten) but based on this one, it isn't one of my favourite shows.

saw this at Chic.Very weak apart from Jamie Parker.Weak choreography.Can't imagine it being very popular on tour.

The complete difference in views is one of the things I love about this forum. Almost everyone seems to rave about Jamie Parker and yet I thought he was the weakest one in the main four (and he completely buggered up 'Luck Be A Lady' the night I saw it too) whereas I thought Sophie Thompson was completely and utterly heartbreakingly glorious and yet she seems to be singled out for the most criticism on here). Jamie Parker is actually the one of the main four I'd miss the least so I'll happily go and see it again when it heads to the Phoenix.

Interesting as for me the weakest person of the main 4 was I'm sad to say David Haig, but I'd still say the audience seemed flat for some reason when I saw it

I saw this in CFT and at the Savoy. Love Sophie Thompson and Jamie Parker. Weakest link is David Haig by far (Peter Polycarpou was sooooo much better in Chichester) & they do have difficulty casting a good Sarah as both Claire (CFT) and Siobhan really don't fit the role. My favourite Sarah so far has been Jenna Russell and Laura Pitt-Pulford

Saw this last night with my £40 GILT front row side seat - great view. I've seen 2 productions previously, the amazing 1997 NT and the Piccadilly Theatre Ewan McGregor one (was that really 2005)? This fell short on both the previous shows; Jamie Parker was the highlight for me, great voice and loved his Havana struggle to not fall in love. As posted here the Sophie Thompson hunched back portrayal felt like it was played for comedy, but the comedy is in the lines and the songs, you really don't have to over-egg it by making it a pantoesque performance. David Haig - saw him in 2010 in Yes Prime Minister, and it felt like the same performance in a different setting, arm waving, bordering hysterical, etc. And yes, Siobhan - I felt she was underplaying in parts, she faded into the background against the other OTT performances. A good Nicely Nicely (although can never ever beat "my" Clive Rowe).
Great orchestra, liked the set, fab dancers but they did go on ... and the wonderful young woman in the Havana number ... what was with the walking back to centre stage after the huge applause at the end of her number and then walking off side stage? Felt odd.

Didn't even think about Joe Pasquale. My mind instantly thought of Steven Pasquale. On reflection, this probably won't be the case, but I'd be there in a heartbeat if that happened. What a voice!

The spuds are better actors.
I saw Pasquale in Spamalot a couple of times and he is a atrocious actor.

Isn't Stephen Pasquale in "The Robber Bridegroom" until the end of May? I'm not sure I can see him cutting that short to enjoy the delights of Milton Keynes!
Are there any non-singing parts in Guys and Dolls that Joe could do?

I saw Joe Pasquale in The Producers and it's probably the worst performance I've ever seen on a professional stage, not just incompetent but completely obnoxious and under the impression that everything should revolve around him. If he's cast, I can only feel pity for the rest of the company because he will single-handedly destroy the production.
If they manage to get Steven Pasquale that would be a huge coup and enough to get me to see this production again, just imagine him as Sky!
