It's Anna's last show tonight. Thought she was fantastic in the role, the whole cast were in fact. Much preferred them to the London production. Thought they were more believable and had more heart.

I'm thinking about booking for the Thursday matinee this week with my TodayTix voucher money (my code is ZMQEY), and I was wondering, looking at the ATG site, what the chances of the upper circle being closed for that performance are.

Full house and a great reaction from last nights audience. I enjoyed Rebel's interpretation of Adelaide - she shone with her singing but I got tired of her speaking voice (I know she's supposed to have a cold but it just grated on me and felt too put on rather than just acting with an accent). Also enjoyed Simon Lipkin as Nathan. He and Rebel certainly bought a different level of comedy to the show which may not be to purists taste but it seemed to go down really well with the audience. Oliver Tompsett and Siubhan Harrison were both more than acceptable in their roles, although Oliver was my least favourite Sky over the years... Jamie Parker and Ewan Macgregor take that crown. Quite a crowded stage at times for the dancing but not enough to spoil anything. All in all a fun evening of a good show and glad I got to see this production one more time.

I'm surprised this hasn't announced a closure since Baz announced the news last week

Full house last night for my seventh viewing of this production.
The stand out for me last night was Simon Lipkin, who was really funny and energetic. Though he and Rebel Wilson made a very modern Adelaide and Nathan. I wasn't massively impressed with her - sitting in the Upper Circle, it felt like she was mumbling a bit and she definitely didn't create a sense of pathos in her frustration with Nathan (oo, that rhymes!) Her singing was better than I expected though.
Oliver Tompsett seemed to be struggling to speak - slightly husky I felt - but he sang like a dream.
It's such a great show!
The usherette didn't know anything about it closing though.

Rumour had it something else is going into the Phoenix as of the 4th September, so probably no later than 30th August, if that rumour is true.

But you would think if that rumour was true the producers would have announced closure by now, or over the coming few days, in order to minimise refund/reorganisation of dates for post September tickets and subsequently cash in the possible boost of urgency to see the show before it closes. I for one really hope the show doesn't close early, it's nice to have an old school musical, and looking at this week this ticket sales don't appear disasterous.

Also, the production going in September will need quite a bit of time to market the show etc? I wouldn't be surprised if Rebel's last show was the last show altogether and then regarding the actors leaving a few weeks before that, either their understudy will just continue in the role for the last few shows or the actor from the tour will be drafted in, again for the last few shows?

Yeah I am surprised that tickets have not gone on sale or the next project hasn't been announced officially yet.

Selina Hamilton has announced on her Twitter that she's joining Strictly Ballroom thus she wouldn't be able to big in G&D if it stayed open to Jan. Maybe this could be a sign it's closing?
I don't get why they would extend the run from October to January if sales are bad?

There is a cast change that date with Siubhan and Oliver leaving and some of the ensemble.

Could be but if the show does close when Rebel leaves then that is only around 2 weeks later, then I doubt they'll do a huge cast change. Probably just draft in people from the tour to fit in places

Strictly Ballroom would've been cast for a while, so it's perfectly possible this is just like any other changeover.
I would've thought it was too late now to bring in a show with tickets only going on sale a month in advance

Went back to see this, having seen it previously in Birmingham last year and although it's the same production the current cast seems to elevate the show to another level. I was always a fan of the set and choreography and I thought Jamie Parker and Siubhan Harrison had a great dynamic, but I felt the was just a little extra spark between her and Oliver Tompsett that made their scenes just a little bit more electric. When I first saw it, I couldn't abide any Nathan/Adelaide scenes, in part because I couldn't believe David Haig as Nathan, but mainly because I found Sophie Thompson overacting and annoying. This time round, Simon Lipkin and Rebel Wilson add comedy and a much more engaging dynamic, they are a believeable couple with bundles of chemistry, and this time I was actually looking forward to Nathan and Adelaide scenes, and in fact any scene when any principal characters interacted as they all gel together brilliantly. I was concerned how Rebel would be on the singing front, but she really shines. She may not be traditional musical theatre, but she has a strong belt that is perfect for Adelaide - Adelaide's Lament and Marry the Man Today were two of many highlights. Even for a matinee with what was quite a young crowd, the theatre was pretty full and I hope this will mark a new fortune and the show doesn't close, as with an equally strong cast that can live upto the potential of this production, the show could go from strength to strength.

I just can't see it going on until January really, especially with the low box office. Wonder what Baz was saying then about the new play

Wonder what Baz was saying then about the new play I'm not sure but I don't think the box office is too bad at the moment, I think Rebel may be starting to have an effect, and the running costs of the show wouldn't be as high as other musicals. I only doubt the closure as the next show would need time to market to build an advance, and the producers would surely see the advantages of announcing the closing in order to prevent bookings post August and then take advantage of last minute ticket booking to boost the box office before closing. It seems strange they haven't done that yet if this show is closing, especially as the rumour developed two weeks ago now.

Once Rebel leaves, it might be hard to stay open until Jan unless they get another name to attract audiences. I too agree it would be too late to get a new show in and get tickets. Maybe the show will close in November or something and the house will just stay empty or it might stay open to Jan - who knows. I think Box Office is good now but I don't think it was the best before Rebel

Yes it definitely wasn't good - I think that down to trying to sell the show with theatrical names rather than popular culture names. Possibly dayseats have helped a small bit. Another possibility could be that the show may close in October on its original closing date, in a similar way to how Women on the Verge extended in an ATG theatre only to close on its original closing date.

ATG put a deal on to get top price seats for £35 for after Rebel left until late October the day after Baz put out that it would be replaced, so I doubt they would do that if they had any intention of closing after Rebel left.
Of course, it could be a major last ditch attempt to sell tickets, but who knows really?

Yes that could be a possibility - good call. That means the Phoenix would be empty over the Christmas season for 2 months though (possibly one of the best times in terms of ticket sales) before The Girls goes there. ATG would be loosing money though?

If the show is to stay open, does anyone have any ideas who could be the next Sky and Sarah, I've seen Siubhan tweet that some of the tour cast have contracts to January but that could just be ensembles transferring in. Given that the cast change is 14th, an announcement this week could be possible?

I think this will probably close on the 21st with the tour cast filling the final two weeks for those leaving on the 14th
