I know what I wanted to ask. Is Ray meant to be Priti’s Mum? I couldn’t understand what they said when they hugged near the end. Don't think so. It always interested me as to why they changed it from Lee to Ray when it transferred to London as it was Lee in the documentary too OK. Thanks. I just read about the name change. If anyone knows why, please tell us. |

The recording is funny, isn't it? I gave it a quick spin this morning. There are some parts that just fade away so strangely (the ending of Beautiful, which has this weird long whistle..) and then all of a sudden Work of Art has a round of applause, and I never thought this was a live recording. It feels a bit choppy. But I'm so glad to have a cast recording at last.

I don't understand this decision. Most of the general public will only go to see a show once, lets be real. So why would they bother to make the journey to London and pay the prices this charges when they csn go down the road and see it in the cinema.
I'm glad they are filming it, and it will probably end up on Broadway HD, but I can't help but feel this isn't gonna be a smart move ticket sales wise. After this news, I won't be surprised to see it close at the end of its current booking period.

I'm glad they are filming it, and it will probably end up on Broadway HD, but I can't help but feel this isn't gonna be a smart move ticket sales wise. If the show had been running a while as was the case for Billy Elliot and War Horse then a live cinema broadcast can be a boost but I think for Jamie, it's a little risky but TBH even if it does close at the end of its booking period, 11 months for a new British musical which doesn't have a familiar title or a name is still bloody good. |

Doesn't sound like good news for the show. I don't think they'd live stream it if the intention was to stay open for a considerable amount longer. Surely it depletes the potential sales?

I think it could be a very good move, especially if it's looking for a life on tour after the London production closes. The London production gets shown in many cinemas up and down the country, (fingers crossed) it's a fantastic performance if it's going out live, and that generates great word of mouth in places where the show might not get too. If and when a tour goes out, it already has customers who have seen it and take friends family along to see it live in the nearest place to them.

I agree- it was never going to be a long runner in the West End, but if a broadcast generates press/word of mouth etc then people will likely see it on tour. I think a fair few of this board in the 'London bubble' forget that for many it's a considerable time/money investment to get to London BUT if a tour is coming by and you've either heard of it or seen the broadcast and loved it, I'd be willing to bet people would book. It's also a lovely show to tour and would probably do well in the medium sized musical venues around the country. |

Tickets for Jamie (and others) might be relatively cheap, and cinema tickets relatively expensive. But my local NT live or equivalent costs me, say £15 a ticket and if I'm unlucky another £5 in parking/transport tops. Trip to London: Bus £20 (Train £50-100) Hotel: £70 a night (that's an average) Tubes/buses: £6 a day Feeding self away from home for at least 2 days if overnight: £50 (at least) So we're talking what £150 and up for a super-budget trip BEFORE I buy the tickets (so if I get a good deal what another £50 for 2 shows? more for 'big' ones) It's great if you CAN do it but things like streaming productions really do let people who can't just pop over to London see them. And I'm happy to fork out more than the average cinema price because I does save me money. Of course I'd rather see it live, but such is life... |

You are assuming I live in London. I don't. I live near Newcastle so not exactly the quickest of commutes for me...
Even then I would rather pay the extra on travel than watch it on a screen.

Frankly, I live conveniently close to London, but I'll still go to a broadcast of a show I've already seen and loved 'cos the rake's better, it's still cheaper, *and* I know I'll be in bed by 11pm. If you don't like it, don't go, but don't be so shortsighted as to presume everyone shares your viewpoint.

But I did Express a frustration with the idea that because one person doesn’t like it then it’s a “bad idea” broadcasts also help those who for whatever reason feel intimidated by theatre. For something like Jamie imagine a young gay person can sneak off to the cinema under the guise of seeing one of 10 other films without family knowing and see this and not have to tell Mum and Dad...just one random way broadcasts help. See also Wheelchair access, support for those with hearing issues etc etc |

Prior to that it was Jerusalem which also lasted a year. Looking at other Nimax houses though, specifically the Lyric next door (Thriller Live), Jamie seems to be doing much better in terms of the percentage of tickets sold for future performances, in most cases it's around 10% higher per performance |

I saw the last full evening erformancee of Curious at the Apollo, the night before and loved it. That was a great theatre for that show! |

As a Northerner, I love it when there is a cinema screening of a West End (or Broadway) show. I will be hopefully seeing 'Jamie' next week but will also go to the screening as although the atmosphere obviously isn't the same, it's great to get up close and personal with the performers.
