Personally i think you could say the same for waitress Waitress is such a weak show. Seeing Sara Barielles in it was great but it just shows how flawed the staging, choreography, etc are. That never stopped shows from coming to London More than weak, I find it inconsistent. It can't decide if it's a serious musical drama or a comedy. And whenever it gets into comedy territory, I found it rather juvenile and basic. It does have a good score, a relatively good story and tends to be a crowd pleaser. I can see it doing well in London.

I saw this show in January. It was very enjoyable. I'm glad I got to see it before it closed.

I'd love a short run of a play, and then maybe something like the Addams Family. Something niche, but with selling power. Any show that is good, not from Broadway and doesn't have to get be brand new, but could be a touring show with some added sparkle for London. It's a shame now that we immediately tend to think 'what musical could come from Broadway' when a London theatre becomes available. I'd rather not have touring productions in West End theatres. Beautiful has had a great run and it's touring so in the scheme of things, a show closing isn't that big a deal as it part of the West End cycle to refresh itself with new shows and new cast.

Touring productions usually never scaled up their productions when they come to the West End, it's an additional cost to the producers which they don't need and wouldn't be willing to spend the money on.

Totally agree - Waitress is a sweet yet dud show about everyone having affairs and nothing happens at the end! I soooo wanted to love it yet sadly didn't.

The show has had a good run and only two ladies have been cast as the star role so show hasn't diluted across a long run. The tour starts only a month after the London run ends so it will be interesting to see how many of the cast remain with the show. I hope Cassidy does the tour as she's had great reviews and it is a wonderful part. I'd guess a few of the ensemble may move to more featured roles. Stephanie McKeon will only do about 10 weeks as Cynthia so I'd guess she'd be in line for tour. Lorna Want will be having her baby in July so she won't be available. Lorna said on twitter she'd have loved to have done entire West End run.
Groundhog Day needs a home so that could be a good fit as a replacement.

I've not seen or know much about this show, but I'm curious. Will they just use the London set for the UK tour now or did they already start building before they announced closure? If it's the latter than it seems a bit of a waste (unless it's lined up to go somewhere else)!
Also regarding Groundhog Day at the Aldwych, seems to be a good fit and idea but if it was to arrive in spring, as previously stated, that would leave it dark for a while so I wonder what else could go in as a filler?

Wonder if Chris Peluso may play Gerry on the tour. I believe he said somewhere he wants to work still in the UK, and was due to play Gerry in this cast but was stopped due to visa issues.

Saw the matinee today, three out of the four leads were understudies - for Carole King, Gerry Goffin and Barry Mann. Leigh Lothian as Carole started off slightly timid but really grew on me. She completely came into her own during "Beautiful". It was my third time seeing the show and I really enjoyed it again, it really is a great collection of music.
Theatre wasn't full, stalls about 75% full with the upper circle closed and I got moved from my cheap rear stalls seat to a nice seat 6 rows back by the box office when I collected my ticket.

There always seems to be something else higher up in priority... I finally got round to marching myself to the Aldwych last night. I can't honestly say the show did a lot for me but I saw Cassidy Janson & it's one off my list of need-to-see-before-they-close shows. I only recognised one song but I could tell which were the well-known-to-other-people songs because most of the surrounding audience started humming along & head bobbing. I have discovered that an audience humming along & rustling sweets is much less annoying if you're not enjoying the show that much anyway! On reflection I think the main reason I didn't enjoy the show much was because there were very few attempts to integrate the songs with the plot. Most of the time it was "Here's our latest song...and here's another one..and another one". There were only a couple of songs that were actually used to reflect the characters' emotional situations.

I felt like it was highly derivative of Jersey Boys - it's as if the writers thought 'hey, this is a format that works, let's see who else we could apply it to'
