This did so badly in the Olivier Award nominations (not surprised) how is the show doing? I saw it once and was very disappointed... I wanted it to be amazing and something I would make repeat visits for. I'm sure the cast and crew and Disney are also disappointed by the lack of nominations.

It's still selling incredibly well, but yes the lack of nominations will be a disappointment for them. That said, I'm honestly not surprised. Thought they may have got a nod for Trevor Dion Nicholas and maybe for choreography, but otherwise I'm in agreement. Neither Aladdin or Jasmine were award-worthy for me, and I enjoyed School of Rock and Dreamgirls lots more than this...I can't even say that I preferred Aladdin to The Girls. |

To nominate this lead role for lead is an insult to the other actors. The guy who plays the Genie is fun and deserves a huge applause and nice pay check at the end of each performance. That's it. Great theatre, this ain't. In fact, the Genie character is just a modern day minstrel act.

Lack of nominations hasn't hurt other big shows like Wicked and The Lion King, Lion King lost out to Honk! IIRC

For a Tony winner to not even be nominated is a surprise and I think he more than deserved a nomination.
Just because some on here didn't like it, doesn't devalue the enjoyment others have got from it

Was at the show tonight. Pretty much had the same flaws as when I saw it during previews last year. Pretty much just sound issues, but Dean and Jades mics seemed to be very low compared to everyone elses. But it was still an enjoyable night. Trevor as the Genie was terrific.

If Frozen is a hit, I could see it replacing Aladdin although if Aladdin is still going strong in 2020/2021, it'll probably opt for somewhere like Drury Lane or the Dominion |

If they don't, I would envisage Aladdin running out of steam before The Cash Cow King. |

Saw this last night. One hates to be overly negative but I really, really struggled to find any positives in this show beyond an amazing performance as the Genie. It's actually kind of self-fulfilling that he opens the show sensationally with Arabian Nights, says "don't miss me too much" as he leaves then the resultant hour before he comes back on is so soul-destroying that you're begging the show to get on with it so he can pick it back up again, which he did with the equally sensational Friend Like Me.
The biggest problem with this show is the material; the script is an out-and-out abomination, with sub-pantomime innuendos that sunk like a lead balloon and positively cringeworthy nods to removals from the original film (a special place in Hell is reserved for whoever wrote "must you parrot everything I say"). The new material is a huge issue, not a single one of the new songs rises above 'barely tolerable', with Aladdin and Jasmine's new duet on the rooftop being a particular low point. I don't know whether it's the material, direction, performances or a combination of all three but the characterisation is terrible: In this show, Aladdin is an arrogant, preening douchebag who you desperately don't want to succeed, Jasmine is a wet paper tissue who makes no kind of impact whatsoever, the Sultan has been reduced to a cipher who does and contributes nothing (why did they remove the subplot of him being hypnotised by Jafar??) and Jafar and especially Iago are completely insufferable.
While I'm at it: What is the point of the three sidekick characters? Literally, why are they there? They contribute absolutely nothing to the plot and only exist to pad out the running time and bolster Aladdin. God, their terrible song that feels like it lasts for half an hour and ends with them being captured and the Genie freeing Aladdin as in the film, making the entire thing completely pointless. Then they're captured in their civilian clothes and somehow end up in their royal garb for the finale, did the guards allow them to change their clothes?!
Oh God, that finale. How bad is the finale? Having agonisingly stretched an 80 minute film into a two-and-a-half hour show largely by extending two minute scenes in the film to 15 minute scenes in the show and adding awful songs, they inexplicably decide that everything from Jafar getting the lamp to the ending should be rushed through in one two-minute scene with barely any room to breathe.
I will say that I thought the ensemble looked and sounded great, the set (particularly the Cave of Wonders) was fantastic and the orchestra was in fine form. It's actually rather dispiriting to see so much energy, talent and effort both onstage and off wasted on such rubbish material.
Other than that this is genuinely one of the worst shows I've seen in a long time and there's nowhere near enough to justify paying the sky-high ticket prices unless you're a completionist like I am.

I've since come to understand that we had, at minimum, the understudies for Jasmine and Iago on (I don't tend to know such things because I don't buy programmes). It could be that the regular Jasmine and Iago are better than the understudies.

I'm not sure when the cast change is but I know Marsha S is leaving (ensemble/understudy Jasmine) as she tweeted about it not long ago. I imagine with a show like this it will have a fairly big cast change with most leaving. |

Marsha (u/s Jasmine) said something on social media this week about 12 weeks left this week so I think it's beginning of June or last week of May. As for who is leaving I know Marsha is leaving, think Michelle Hopewell could be leaving. I'm praying Trevor doesn't leave. As for the show itself, saw it for the 5th time on Tuesday, Friend like me was incredible but sadly there was a stop due to technical difficulties just before a whole new world and I felt that affected the flow of the remainder of the show and some of the Disney magic was lost which left me feeling disappointed. Have to say though the theatre staff are so helpful! |

I thought this show was ok...Dean's chest was very nice though! The only good thing that could be said about him. He's completely unlikeable and irritating as a lead. |

After being distinctly underwhelmed last July, I find myself spontaneously on my way to the Prince Edward...bagged myself a premium stalls seat (one of the ones with the extra leg room) for £17.50 on the official site about an hour ago.
So anybody who wants to see this and is put off by the prices, keep an eye out because they'll plunge off peak!
There were single seats at £17.50 right across the stalls and dress, and seats together at £30 in the middle of the premiums.
Bargains galore.
