Finally saw Sixpence this afternoon - glad I caught it as it's so uplifting and Charlie is a delight. Don't think Jane How was on, but other principals all there. Catch it while you can folks.

Not sure if it was mentioned already, but both the matinee and evening performances on Thursday 24th August on the Delfont Mackinstoh website say that the show will be filmed. I hope it's for a bbc christmas type escapade! That would make for a very festive season! ❄️ |

I too was there - Jane How was off, as was Callum Train and David Burrows (whose understudy looked far too young to be Charlie Stemp's uncle). It was my third time seeing this and loved it just as much as the first time. Charlie Stemp is still absolutely brilliant, and I really loved Devon and Emma as his two love interests. |

Just got back from performance. It was a lot of fun and a real throw back. I did a stage door for the first time and Charlie Stemp was so gracious and sweet to everyone. I sent the picture I got with him to my kids and told them to keep track of it because some day they are going to be glad that they have a picture of him in the beginning of his career.

This Friday seems to be going pretty well so it's not worth buying a cheap ticket and hoping for an upgrade, but if you have some flexibility then you could wait until late Thursday/early Friday and see if anything's come down. Personally I wouldn't be willing to gamble as much with this one anymore, as we are less than three weeks away from closing, and reports of an eager fandom have not been overstated.

Just checked today tix and I can get Stalls row D for £42.50. Looks like it's the second row back. Theatremonkey is this too close?? Or am I grabbing a bargain?

Sticking my two penn'orth in - first time I was in the 3rd row and personally I found it too close, I'm about 5 foot 2 and felt I had to look up to the stage a bit. Second time I was about 8 rows back and preferred that.

Couldn't resist one final visit last night. Have seen the show four times in total and I swear every time it just gets better and better. Charlie Stemp really is brilliant, I can't wait to see what he does next (after panto!)

Have seen the show four times in total and I swear every time it just gets better and better. Although I personally didn't much care for Half a Sixpence (my reasons are given – at length – in my comments on the theatremonkey website) I am greatly heartened to hear how much other dedicated theatre-goers enjoy repeated visits to that show and others that they love. I felt at my fifth visit to 42nd Street last night that it too is getting better and better and I am always sorry in some ways when a musical closes and the performers are out of a job. I just made a similar comment on the AAIP thread (another show that disappointed me) but if fans are getting pleasure out of repeated visits then all I can say is 'hooray' – after all, it's why we are all members of this website! |

Both shows are two of my favourites of 2016 so I'm happy how it turned out, but I would of preferred Charlie simply for the fact it was an amazing leading man debut. |

Finally took the plunge on this after the infamous website dynamic pricing threw up the legendary D25 in the Royal Circle for £14.75 - money well spent! It's a great seat, an absolute steal at that price, far better than sitting up in the balcony or even at the back of the stalls.
As for the show... I'm glad I've seen it, I liked it, I didn't love it. A bit too "ey-up guvnor 'ows yer father" for me, perhaps. I had issues with the plot in the same way that someone did about 30 pages back - there's little motivation for why Charlie suddenly decides he does love Anne after all, and why his besottedness with Helen comes to an abrupt end, other than the prospect of his future mother-in-law! The first half drags somewhat (the people in front of me had a wonderful conversation that I totally agreed with - "you get into it a bit, and you think you're enjoying it for a while, and then I'm like 'I'm a bit bored now'"). The second half picks up, with the better songs and a much tighter storyline. And the last 20 minutes is really enough to erase any of the boredom from earlier on, and I certainly left with a smile on my face.
As everyone else has said, the cast is excellent - Charlie Stemp has the makings of a real star, and I hope he can transfer the charisma he has here to another vehicle. Emma Williams is lovely, and not given enough to do (I was waiting for a big eleven o'clock ballad near the end) and Devon-Elise Johnson is charming and sings beautifully. My only criticism of both of them isn't really aimed at them, more the piece - that the accents they are forced to put on for the show prevents them from really singing out and showing their full range and power, which is a shame.
Overall, it's a good production of a decent, if flawed show. I'm very glad I caught it before it closed.

Something I never really noticed until I saw it the other day, Devon has a lovely belt, id love to hear her do more of that in the future.
And I still think Emma should at least get a reprise of Believe in Yourself at the end when Charlie leaves her, giving her hope unto what she will go onto and giving the audience more satisfaction in the end of her story. And the oppertuniry to hear Emma really go for it vocally, because we all know she has that in her!
