What's the logic behind changing a logo a few months before it closes ? and to a worse one at that As it was done in someones box room on a zx spectrum I don't think the financial cost of the rebrand has been that sizeable. Expect to see some hand drawn approximations of the new logo done by an infant school from Kingston in the leaflet racks of the west end!

I wonder if they're also going to change the FOH signage to reflect the change...and also the on-stage logo (can't think how better to describe that) at the start of the show?

Why the hideous new logo so close to the end of the run? Just, no. The obvious and facetious answer is that if they'd used it earlier they wouldn't have reached this late in the run.

Just checked and surprised to see that sixpences were still around in 1980. I remember them very well (2 and a half pence equivalent!) but thought they has gone earlier. Sad to relate that I also remember threepenny bits (the weirdest coin ever and an actual half a sixpence) as well as the old big pennys, ten shilling notes, shillings, florins, crowns, half crowns etc! We used to collect thruppeny bits in a journey sweet tin when I was little (totally showing my age there!) And as a child I loved the big old pennies and halfpennies... used to feel so rich when a got my pocket money!

When I did Half A Sixpence as an amateur all the male chorus gave the female chorus a real half a sixpence on the opening night. i still have it somewhere.

Interesting that this branding team only appears to be on the social media accounts and not the official website, or physical advertisements but it's early days for that. The website however surprises me - usually if you want to rebrand good practice is to do it all together for consistency. This could therefore be social media only branding to try and draw in the younger crowds, or maybe a mini test for your branding?

Not to derail the thread, but the shillings were still around in 1988 thereabouts, weren't they? That was the year I first set foot on yonder shores for a school exchange programme and I remember us little Germans being endlessly confused by the coinage. I seem to distinctly remember that shillings were still around and we never knew how to fit them in with the pence coins. No sixpences though, I think.

Correct... the shilling wasn't withdraw until 1990 when the new smaller 5p coin was introduced, and the two shilling coin was in circulation until 1992 when the new smaller 10p coin came in. Sixpences went in 1980.

Although I'd never want to go back to the stupidity of pre-decimal currency I think it's a shame that inflation has made the old coin sizes hopelessly impractical. It was rather good that the 5p and 10p were interchangeable with the shilling and florin, and I think I may have spent a few 19th century coins.

The new artwork looks like something old people might think young people find appealing.
Six Half A Pence? Who's idea was that?

I was idly wondering if there's an interesting anagram of "Half a sixpence" but the best I can come up with is "Chelsea nip fax" or "he fix a lens cap".

I'm so pleased I accidentally discovered Theatre Board. I was going to chance my arm and try at the box office for a £20 day seat, which is never guaranteed when you live outwith London and rarely arrive before 11.30am. Failing that, I was going to try for a £25 ticket from the TKTS booth. Then I read a post that really good value tickets were often available in advance. So ahead of my trip to London last Wednesday, I went online and booked the legendary D25 for just £14.75. That is a great price for such an amazing seat. Thank you for the advice.
I've never been a stage-door Johnny, but I've now gone autograph hunting twice in just seven days. I embarrassingly mumbled to Charlie Stemp (as he was undressing) that he was really going places. He very modestly replied that, right now, the WHOLE company are concentrating only on Half a Sixpence. What a nice young man!

The new artwork is dreadful. There's a problem when you can't even read the title of the show easily.

I am delighted this charming show has had a decent run - if only for the discovery of Charlie Stemp. I do hope he has some great opportunities in musical theatre in the future.
However, I do get the impression that Cameron Mack has taken a shine to this show and helped it along enormously. It would have helped him owning the theatre - he can't chuck himself out if he doesn't want to. He is a business man and I am sure it has probably not incurred huge losses but I do think he has nursed it along to give it a decent run with the possibility of a tour "following a smash hit West End run"!
