The Exorcist was also looking for a West End home (before Broadway), but I imagine that would probably do a limited run at a smaller playhouse, maybe in time for Halloween. Not sure if the demand would be big enough for 1000 plus seaters like the Phoenix or Aldwych. The Playhouse Theatre would actually be a great venue for that! With the venue free in September, it would certainly be possible! |

Wasn't American Psycho slated for a revival over here again? Perhaps that could be a contender? I think that could go to a west end theatre but I wouldn't e surprised if it goes back to the almeida for the autumn or winter |

Like The Girls, Bend it Like Beckham, The Go-Between, Made in Dagenham, Mrs Henderson Presents, I Can't Sing, Stephen Ward, From Here to Eternity, Loserville..... None of these shows were profitable. Heck, none of them even ended up touring (only the Girls will tour it seems) Of all the shows that opened on Broadway this season, the only one that is probably a guaranteed success if it transferred would be Anastasia. We haven't even gotten Waitress/Gentlemens Guide/Something Rotten/Newsies which were all hits on Broadway (not sure if Rotten recouped actually but it had a longer run than I'd bet many would have expected). Thank god for places like the Young Vic which means we can get a production of Fun Home. |

All except Gentlemens guide would be good for the Aldwych and Phoenix (GG would need somewhere smaller I'd guess). I still think Waitress is probably the most likely of that lot. I wonder if they could get Sara to open it over here.

I for example am a huge fan of Wicked. But I don't think it's okay for the West End to be swamped with Broadway transfers and become a sort of second-hand Broadway. There are currently 19 musicals on in the West End. 12 of them originated on Broadway. 2 others have announced that they'll be closing. |

I'd be interested in seeing The Last Ship somewhere here. There are few shows that I think are worthy of a production here though, now that we are getting Fun Home and Hamilton. Natasha, Pierre etc., surely as Rachel Chavkin has a record of bringing interesting work over here. A very long shot but Bridges of Madison County for somewhere like Chichester. |

I completely agree, I am ready for The Last Ship to come over here. It should of started here, it had way more of a chance at succeeding here than on Broadway. I don't think The Last Ship could "come over" even if it wanted to. It looks like that production has died-- whatever chances they have, they will need to start from scratch. It seemed to me a very hard show to sell or market. If it wasn't for Sting, I couldn't have seen it taking off. I feel like we need to learn a lesson from The Last Ship and The Girls. Just because they are written by famous pop artists, it doesn't mean they can do well or will necessarily get major support.
I think Waitress needs to find its way to London soon. Londoners will love its cheesy caricature of the American south, the leading lady character and her sidekicks as well as the story.

If an adaptation of the Calendar Girls brand can't sell out 1,000 seats, I very much doubt a show titled 'Waitress' would be able to do the same. Come to think of it, what was the last musical in London, that wasn't a transfer from Broadway (i.e. new, not a late transfer as in Memphis or Scoundrels), that endured a run of more than a year. |
