Poppins at a Drury Lane is only 50/50 at the moment so don't get too excited.
It couldn't fill 1500 seats at the PE years ago, so why they'd put a touring version in Drury Lane is beyond me.

Nope- it's going to Broadway .. Would there be any possibility that Angels In America might transfer for a limited run? I hope not - I saw it and loved it (minus the accents) but it definitely needs to be a blaze of glory type production IMO. |

Honestly, it's beyond me how/why DEH/CFA are selling out like they do. I can't see either survive for long in the West End and hope they wil get limited fringe runs like Fun House is getting at the Young Vic. For Comet we'll have to see how it will sell once Josh Groban leaves. I can see it succeed in the West End for a year or two simply because of its freshness and quirkyness. War Paint, like Anastasia, seems to benefit from having a more typical musical sound with plenty of ballads, not to mention starry names. Success in the West End would very much depend on who they cast in the two leads. That said, of course it would be nicer to have more home-grown sucess shows. Personally I think the music/lyrics of Groundhog Day (which originated in London) stand heads and shoulders above DEH/CFA/Comet. I so hope this show comes back and soonish. I think there are simply more people flocking to see shows in New York than they are in London. The amount of both tourists and locals heading to these theatres is greater. I don't have proof, but I can just see it. I think Comet will do just fine with or without Groban. I think it certainly helped the show that a star is in it (I keep on hearing older ladies refer to it as "the show with Josh Groban"), but I think due to how special it is, it'll do quite well. Getting Tony awards will also help it a lot, not that it desperately needs the help, but I think the show deserves recognition. DEH, I don't see it in London. From what I see, London audiences tend to be a bunch of girlfriends, couples, dates. The teenager going with parents factor is completely absent. It's completely giving life to Anastasia and DEH. Come from Away is a New York story (though not set in New York!). Tony Award or not, this won't last for years on Broadway. I can't seem to find the data for last year, but in previous years, the West End has taken on average 1-2 million more visitors than Broadway |

Im surprised both theatres are becoming availible so soon and around the same time. I wonder if anything could suddenly cause much excitement.

Hopefully we'll hear some news soon, and hopefully it'll be good news - I gather both venues are being eyed up by multiple producers.

Lloyd Webber owns this theatre so it's very unlikely. He isn't one to improve /maintain his theatres. Poppins at a Drury Lane is only 50/50 at the moment so don't get too excited. I imagine Mosquitos would go for somewhere like the Wyndham's or Apollo. It would be hugely risky putting Grey Gardens in somewhere like the Aldwych or Phoenix likewise Caroline or Change. |

A friend of mine who is in RUG has suggested that it would be a substantial return, altering seating/sightlines which honestly surprised me...plus with it being a listed building I'm not sure exactly how much they can do. Anyway I guess when 42nd Street closes we'll find out. |

The Exorcist was also looking for a West End home (before Broadway), but I imagine that would probably do a limited run at a smaller playhouse, maybe in time for Halloween. Not sure if the demand would be big enough for 1000 plus seaters like the Phoenix or Aldwych.

Another show I hope transfers and could work in a smaller theatre is Madame Rubinstein
I also wouldn't be surprised if The Band transferred to the west end after the tour even though we probably don't need it.
