Going forward, I wonder if the NT Pinocchio could transfer if it gets good reviews. It seems if it's playing the Lyttleton then it could transfer in nicely to the Aldwych, Phoenix or Piccadilly in the spring.
It's a shame the transfer of Something Rotten seems all but dead. There's not going to be anything big and new until early next year I'd of thought.

Look at Broadway currently, it's amazing how Dear Evan Hansen and Come from away are both SRO hits. Great comet practically a sell out too, and even War Paint selling close to 90% of seats. I think the last big west end hit was Book of Mormon but even that didn't reach the level of what DEH/CFA are hitting in New York right now |

I can't see either survive for long in the West End and hope they wil get limited fringe runs like Fun House is getting at the Young Vic. For Comet we'll have to see how it will sell once Josh Groban leaves. I can see it succeed in the West End for a year or two simply because of its freshness and quirkyness. War Paint, like Anastasia, seems to benefit from having a more typical musical sound with plenty of ballads, not to mention starry names. Success in the West End would very much depend on who they cast in the two leads. That said, of course it would be nicer to have more home-grown sucess shows. Personally I think the music/lyrics of Groundhog Day (which originated in London) stand heads and shoulders above DEH/CFA/Comet. I so hope this show comes back and soonish. |

Poppins would be welcome anywhere that it didn't look cramped. It was possibly the most impressive touring show I can remember seeing since the good old days of the Les Mis & Phantom tours, and it would sell very easily.
I'd like to think that Groban would come over here and open 'Comet' for a couple of months. He has the fan base and must have tired of the promo/album/tour treadmill by now?

Can't see that happening since they are doing Cinderella next and even though they sometimes put on multiple productions at the same time I can't see them extending the Red Shoes tour which finishes in November. Mainly because the majority of the cast will go straight into rehearsals for Cinderella. Interesting if it does happen but that's definitely a rumour I've not heard. It's more likely it'll return in a couple of years if you ask me. |

I'm really failing to get excited for much coming into London recently, and it feels like such a long time since we had any news. Whilst I'm sad about the aforementioned closures, I will be pleased if we can get some fresh meat into the theatres. If it is a ram shackle tour then it will make the closures have no benefit and I'd rather they continue running.

Please not a tour or one of these random dance shows that nearly all the Strictly pro's are schlepping around the country! They only seem to manage one night in each town before hoofing off to another place the next night.

I think there are simply more people flocking to see shows in New York than they are in London. The amount of both tourists and locals heading to these theatres is greater. I don't have proof, but I can just see it. I think Comet will do just fine with or without Groban. I think it certainly helped the show that a star is in it (I keep on hearing older ladies refer to it as "the show with Josh Groban"), but I think due to how special it is, it'll do quite well. Getting Tony awards will also help it a lot, not that it desperately needs the help, but I think the show deserves recognition. DEH, I don't see it in London. From what I see, London audiences tend to be a bunch of girlfriends, couples, dates. The teenager going with parents factor is completely absent. It's completely giving life to Anastasia and DEH. Come from Away is a New York story (though not set in New York!). Tony Award or not, this won't last for years on Broadway. |
