On the plus side, can we appreciate how ROCKING the band are. The Heathers entrance is phenomenally good - gave me huge goosebumps! That, I agree with. The band are the best part of the whole thing.

I listened to Candy Store (the song with the most interest to me) and spent all of it wincing at the harmonies, or lack of 😬

I like but it just kinda sounds off, I can’t place my finger on what it is that feels off but it might but be cause I’m so used to the off broadway recording. Cause I Say No, Never Shut Up Again and You’re Welcome actually all sound good and I think it’s just cause there’s nothing to compare them too

Whilst alot of the fans have obviously said they think it's amazing, I've seen some agree with the posters on here saying its dissapointing. The issue here is that they held off the release and kept saying it was because they were doing more work to make it perfect only to deliver something that felt a bit, well, lazy. I don't think it was a smart decision on Paul Taylor-Mills' part to keep tweeting "we are doing more work to make it perfect" and here we are, it's not.

I cant help but think PTM doesnt make the best decisions. Taking Heathers to the West End at all was a bad idea, and he was warned by other producers.

And wasn't Bill Kenwright one of the co-producers?
His productions may not be to everyone's taste, but he does kinda know what he's doing!

I’m not sure I’d say it feels lazy though, given I think the overall feeling is that it’s over-produced. It feels too polished, and honestly would have benefitted from a live recording to capture the energy. I’m so grateful to have this recording though, and to have Jamie Muscato’s JD officially captured - his numbers have come off best because, to me, it feels like he was giving the same or almost the same energy as he did on stage (and also because he was just ridiculously good in the role, it would’ve been hard to mess that up)

I agree there’s just something off about it, to me it almost sounds a bit too much like a pop album rather than an MT recording.

I JUST bought it and will listen later. I'm interested to see how many of the comments in this thread I'll agree with. One thing I KNOW is that Jamie will be the best thing on the album (as, for me, he was in the show) his voice is glorious.
Agree also about I Will Never Shut Up Again. I saw the show a LOT and I never managed to hear all the lyrics!

It feels more head girl and the prefects than social misfit and the Heathers. Lovely to have a recording of Jamie though.

Well I’m really enjoying it! It does sound over produced particularly in the ensemble vocals. But the band sounds great, Jamie sounds great and it’s nice to finally hear the lyrics to Never Shut Up Again.

I didn't enjoy it at all I'm afraid. It's the 'acting' rather than the songs- some like Seventeen sound great. But there's a lot of over-acting and over-accents going on that make it a bit of a cringeworthy listen for me. I'll dip in to some of the 'big songs' now and then, but it's not one I'll be listening to in its entirety again.

Jamie sounds gorgeous on this, but while I enjoy Carrie's voice (even on this) I think a lot of her performance was so visual that it loses something when it's audio-only. Not unusual - there are many other performers who are exactly the same (*cough*Barrowman*cough*). But when I'm listening to JD I can *hear* elements of that wicked look Jamie had in the role. I don't get that listening to Carrie.
I'll admit I've skipped 'I Will Never Shut Up Again'. I found it so bad live that I've no desire to hear it again. Can't believe it wasn't pulled from the show toward the end of the run, to be honest. On the other hand, I actually LIKE 'You're Welcome' on the recording, though it annoyed me in the theatre. Huh.

I actually think they did a pretty good job recording Never Shut Up Again. The ‘Heathers’ did a live Q&A on Facebook earlier this afternoon and T’Shan said they/she spent a fair amount of time on the enunciation for recording NSUA and I think it’s paid off

Enjoying it on the whole. I think Muscato sounds great, and Sophie Isaacs gets my MVP for pronouncing it ‘skull’ instead of ‘skoll’ like on the OB recording. There are positives and negatives on there. Carrie sounds best on ‘I Say No’ which we’ve already had. Just nice to have a recording thats had time spent on it rather than the ‘live’ recordings we get these days.

Listened to this on my way to work this morning, I did enjoy it but it felt a bit like something was missing for me, it was all very polished sounding, almost like glee does Heathers, I also felt that the tempo of some of the songs (particularly 'Beautiful') was just too slow so it took the energy of the whole song down.

Having listened to the album in full I agree that Jamie Muscato is great but for me the real winner is the Orchestra, They sound great!

Pretty cool that it’s number two on the itunes album chart...not a specialist one, just the actual full album chart. The theatre kids will finally have their day and this is it!!!! 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

Im sure there’s a venn diagram where they meet in the middle but it will be the CHF fans who have done this. They’ll listen to it once, and not having seen the show won’t really like/get it, and will move on to clammering for the next bit of Carrie output.

Still cool that a musical recording other than The Greatest Sodding Showman is doing the business, even if it will end up at number 23 by next Friday when the chart comes out.

I avoided this when it was on as I was too nervous of the fangirls/CHF circus/cup cakes flying at the stage etc.
But I am enjoying the recording I must admit - my first encounter with the score. Mainly checking it out as have loved Jamie Muscato ever since he was Jean Provaire in Les Mis 25th. More upbeat, rockier and just has a bit more to it than something like Waitress which is sort of what I was imagining (based on nothing at all, granted....)
No idea what it's about but must say the characters all sound quite unlikeable!

I really wouldn't get too excited about it doing good on the album chart. Carries album started off close to the of the chart too and then barely scraped the Top 50 in the Official Chart. I'd be dissapointed that, with some ace Cast Recordings in recent years, this is the one to get into the charts.

Meant To Be Yours is my newest obsession. I've been listening to it non-stop, several times in a row sometimes. He's so f*cking good and has that extra umph Ryan McCartan needed in the Off-Broadway recording.
