I saw this at the Curve and wouldn't mind seeing it again, but having just looked at the prices (it's on sale to Theatrecard members), I'll wait for the inevitable sale. I'm seeing plenty of £15 - £39.50 seats in the stalls for weekday performances during the first few weeks of the show; presumably previews. In the "personal enjoyment rating" score I give every show, I awarded this a 7 at Curve and a 9 at Menier so I've booked a row B seat already and hoping for a perfect 10 ! Saw this tonight from seat B6 and I give it my personal 10/10 score just as I hoped. Almost full, well-received by audience, all the cast performed so well. Adrian Mole himself looked just right and sung beautifully. The Nativity scene is the undoubted highlight and extremely funny though does make it a borderline "family" show. Hopefully will be a big hit for the Ambassador. Managed to grab a couple of £13.75 front row specials for an early return visit. |

Saw this at the matinee yesterday and thought it was lovely - charing cast bringing the books to life in an intimate but very well staged production.
I enjoyed the music but didn't think was amazing though - serviced the book well but not a cast recording I would rush to listen to.
Fantastic to see a new British show though!

Really bad bit of promotion for the musical just now on London Tonight ITV.
Started with a clip from the TV show then interview with one of the stars of the musical. Except no mention of what theatre it is on and the dates or even that it's in the west end.
Such a shame.

Never sure what the rules on advertising on commercial tv are?If a company has paid to advertise in the ad slots before/between/after shows,would they have grounds to complain if a show or product gets ‘free’ advertising?

Doubt it. People are always on news programmes and the like advertising their wares. Chat shows are purely for that purpose.

I hate to be that person, but could anyone give a brief idea of what the show is actually about? I'm ashamed to say I've never read the book, but all the praise for this show is making me interested...

Including the usual stuff, first girlfriend, school, family, his parents have a very tumultuous relationship and that features quite heavily in the stage show. |

For anyone who saw it at Curve on its previous run, has it changed much? It really wasn't very good at all back then, but the reviews are now sounding pretty positive, so I'm just wondering how much it's been reworked?

Cute show, if a little light on plot. I really liked how they made good use of the adult cast to play kids too. I thought the first part of act two was a bit weak but it certainly picked up when we got to the nativity scene. Have never read any of the books or know the stories, but good fun. Music slightly too “contemporary generic musical theatre” but serviceable.
Had a cast change for act two for Nigel due to “indisposition”.
Audience certainly enjoyed it. Couldn’t see how many were in the circle but I’d say the stalls was probably about 70% full.

I was also there. The kids cast were:
Adrian - Michael Hawkins
Pandora - Matilda Hopkins
Nigel - Cuba Kamanu (replaced by Regan Garcia)
Barry Kent - Jack Gale
Adrian was particularly good. The change of Nigel did change the pace a bit, from over the top Nigel to much more restrained (as well as a different ethnicity), but well done on the replacement for slotting in. Also explained the 30 minute interval.
Enjoyed this more than when I saw this at the Curve and think they’ve definitely improved the set. I owned the books when I was a teenager and, although much sanitised for the stage, the feel of the first book shines through.
The front row seats are excellent too and good to see the Ambassadors hosting a show that’s ended up as a success.

I found Ghost Stories tedious and not scary at all. I'm sad Adrian Mole is closing early. Maybe they just couldn't find an audience?

Such a shame I really enjoyed it at the Chocolate Factory. I didn't want to see again though (but I rarely do). I have recommended it to quote a few others, obviously not enough!

I was going to buy a ticket for a Thu matinee in Aug until I realised the same seat is much cheaper for the evening performances. I think I will pass! Now off to see what other shows have a Thu matinee.

The Ambassadors really is struggling post-Stomp isn’t it!? I wouldn't say so. It's a great venue for shorter runs. The "Beginning" transfer did well. A shame Eugenius never happened mind. |

I think it could do a bit of TLC from ATG, perhaps a refurb.
With the Duchess, Fortune and Criterion having long runners, it’s only the Ambassadors and Trafalgar Studios that are available for small shows.

Shame it’s closing early I really enjoyed it Same! I think it is so queintissentially British though that was always gonna struggle in London where you have to appeal to tourists to succeed. Made in Dagenham had the same problem. I hope they tour Adrian Mole as sure could do well at the smaller touring venues. Such a big part of so many of our childhoods! Would like to go again before it finishes but not sure will get the chance now with the shorter run. My Summer somewhat blocked by my ALW-fandom. |

^Absolutely. I think because it was going to be sold / demolished, nobody bothered. Now it is staying as it is, it is time to strip all that black paint off the old stalls boxes for a start. It definitely could do with a revamp. When I saw The Twilight Zone there, I thought the stage was far too high. |

TodayTix have £16.50 front row seats available for most of August and September.
Slightly more than last time, but the best value seats in the whole place. I doubt they'll last long and there won't be many more to put available once these have gone.
