Saw this on Tuesday night. Completely fell in love with it inspite of being in a bad mood before going. Completely lifted my week. Urge you all to go see it as wasn't full but word of mouth will undoubtedly fix that. Big shout out to all the kids in the show who are astonishingly talented. They act, sing and dance up a storm but more importantly were all totally believable. Only negative was that physically the show felt cramped and consequently frenetic with all the scene changes. But hey that's the choco factory for you.That aside it is definitely my fav show for 2017. So far....

Set at Choco factory was a fraction of the size and just a room which became his bedroom, living room, class room with sofas, beds and other stuff being pulled out from multiple doors. Very clever design.

This hadn't appealed to me at all, whereas posts above have made me quite keen to see it. However, due to the Menier's annoying practice of not starting evening performances until 8 pm and their prices, I'd be looking for a deal and for a matinee, which sounds an unlikely combination. Still, if it does that well, maybe it will transfer? (And to somewhere with more affordable pricing, as has been the case before.) I couldn't find it on Todaytix, which is interesting, as they do have tix for other off-West-End venues such as the Young Vic.

A standard seat (in a theatre with 9 rows) for Adrian Mole is £45, which would get you into the upper circle for something like Matilda in London, or a rear stalls for a provincial touring show like Miss Saigon. Considering the standard they work to, and how well their shows sell, they seem to have it about it right. You might not get a £10 day seat, but neither will you get charged £125 for a premium. |

Income disparity, perhaps, cmonfeet? And/or average spend? I try to stick below £20 (bearing in mind the £15 tix at CFT and the NT and £12 per production PAYG system at Southwark Playhouse) and anything approaching £30, never mind more than that, has to be really special and a rare treat. Getting off-topic - though hands up, I started it - we've had this discussion about the Menier before and while views vary, I'm not the only one who thinks their pricing a bit steep.

Thank you, @theatremonkey . I'd certainly have considered booking early had I fancied this; just didn't know I would. Let's see what the critics say, and whether the fact that it's now school hols (aargh!) will encourage sales.

It's 45 pound a seat because all of the white middle class people who go to the Mernier can afford it and the producers know it. Work the brand up and put the prices up. Of course it's too expensive for a fringe. Don't tell me that I'm wrong - the audience is very different to Southwark. I find looking at the audience often as interesting as the show itself!

A very good production of an average musical.
The score and lyrics are fine but do not set the world alight. The 2nd act is perhaps too long. I really didn't appreciate the nativity sequence, I guess the writers are attempting a Dream- Pyramus and Thisbe type dynamic but I didn't find it that funny. Hey Hum ...
However the production and cast are all fabulous. Such a strong ensemble company. I wish I looked at the cast sheet because the chap playing Adrian (25 th July) was astounding, such a pleasure to watch-if you are reading this, Well done. You're a star
Dean Chisnall sounds really good. Top voice.
All in all a very enjoyable evening at the theatre, I recommend.

Pretty sure last night was Benjamin Lewis, who was very good indeed. As were the other three child actors, especially Pandora. But I'm afraid this show did nothing for me - neither the production nor the musical itself. I wish it well, but I can't see it setting the world alight. Maybe for parents who can't get tickets for Matilda, it will be an adequate substitute?

Press day yesterday and only a few reviews out so far but so far LondonTheatre 4* and WhatsOnStage 5* rave.
I like this show and it originated at my local, set in my city....i'm fully behind it.

Evening Standard 5*
West End Wilma tweeted it was possibly one of the best shows they have ever seen...so guess 5* when that review comes out.
