Who goes on is up to the Company Manager. Normally (especially in the UK) there is such a thing as first cover/second cover, but ultimately, it's up to the Company Manager to slot them in. Thanks for that didn't know that. Just presumed it when 1st, 2nd, 3rd cover. Glad all 3 covers have been on as Lorell lots now but wish they spread it out - feel sorry for Candace but then feel sorry for Jocasta and Carly if they don't get on! Is Ibinabo alright?

Surprised she is (technically) third cover - I loved her performance. Maybe a small issue with her diction but a wonderful characterisation. I actually preferred her to Ibinabo. Maybe that's why she's been on majority of this week?!

I know they want to bring Dreamgirls to Broadway with Amber but Americans would demand their money back if she is out...Even if she isn't over the title, the producers will have issues on their hands for not offering a refund.
She should really take 2 shows off/week as she does miss an awful lot. She is amazing in the role but poor thing. Marisha though is sensational.

The Broadway production doesn't need a star, she could easily land the role if Amber isn't tied down to it yet, she is prime casting!
... or once Amber leaves, if she wants to take over here, that would be cool too!

I agree that Amber (or whoever plays the first cast as Effie) deserves two days off.
Having said that, I think Amber will fare a lot better in the US. In a way, this run is a trial for both the production and for her. By then I think she would have had it in her system to do a weekly run (be it 6 or 7 times a week), and would have built the stamina. Considering that this is her professional full-on commercial stage musical debut, I think she's doing just fine.
Having said that, I've been following Nova Payton's Effie for a while. She's played Effie in two separate productions in the US (Philadelphia and Milwaukee) and I've heard multiple audio recordings of her and seen clips of her, and she's fantastic. Check it.

Ali, I think both of those actresses sound amazing since those songs. The Chicago one is v v brave. If they don't get the principal they'd be good alternates
I'd like to see Marisha play Effie full time but doubt will happen. I always thought Patina Miller could be a good choice for Deena or Effie too?

Patina Miller auditioned for Effie in the film version! But I think they decided to go with the original mold where Effie would be a full figured woman.
I think at this point, being a Tony winner and being in a successful TV show, Miller wouldn't be interested in playing Dina, especially against Amber who would clearly be the star of the show if she brings it over. I also think that right now, Patina reads old for this particular production.
I have a feeling that Amber, Liisi, Joe Aaron Reid and the fine gent who plays Jimmy (name escapes me) will all be transferred to the US. Work permit-wise, they're all American sans Jimmy.

I agree with you on which cast members will go over. Poor Ibinabo being ill a lot of the time, Producers won't want to take her over, they will see her as too much a liability which is a real shame. I haven't seen her yet, I saw Jocasta, but I'm sure she is great when she is on!

I don't think it has to do with Ibinabo at all and her attendance record. There's just no need to take her. She IS fabulous and amazing. I just feel that it's one of those characters that you just don't transfer over. Laurel is pretty much the Michelle (Williams) of the group. She has her moments, does a killer job, but I feel they'll have difficulty justifying why it can't be a local actress to play the role. Though Adam J Bernard also plays a supporting role, he's clearly on a league of his own and what he does on stage is really exceptional, and I think there is a clear case they can make with Equity why it should be him over any other American actor.

I've seen Ibinabo in Dreamgirls and The Bodyguard, she has very good comedic timing. I didn't enjoy her performance in Legally Blonde very much, mainly because I didn't think her accent was very good. In 'Omigod you guys' it really bugged me that she sang "are you psyched er what?" as she sounded more Jamaican than American. Such a small thing to get annoyed about but it stood out to me every time.

I saw her in BG as well and actually thought she was better than Melissa James.

Oh the guy who plays Jimmy is quite sensational isn't he. I hope he gets the opportunity to transfer, he really deserves it.

There's no need to worry, I was responding to your comment about how you bet she is great when she's on, but you haven't seen her yet (and agreeing that she is good). I wasn't implying that you thought she was bad.

I do apologise if it came across at all aggressive, you know what I mean haha.
On the topic though, I would love it if all three of the originals do go over. Both Amber and Liisi have been ill too, so if they do bring up the liability issue, it could be brought upon all three, not just Ibinabo. All three have had ill spells. And not forgetting, if Amber is ill on Broadway, and dependant on if they bill the two girls above the title too, they could lose loads of money in refunds if the girls are ill, as on Broadway, if those above the title are ill, audience members can ask for a refund!

No need to apologise, you weren't aggressive. It just occurred to me that my post could have been interpreted as me challenging your comments. On the contrary though, I was concurring. I think that interpreting meaning behind informal written text is very tricky though.
I feel that most of the cast - should Dreamgirls go to Broadway - wouldn't be transferring with it, as there's a wealth of talent there already. As already mentioned though, I imagine that we would lose Amber & Marisha to the Broadway run, almost certainly.

I didn't know Patina has a successful TV show at the moment, if I'm honest I presumed she would be looking for work that's why I thought she could play Deena in London at the next cast change but agree she is probs too old. If the show went to Broadway I think Amber would go with it as Marisha as the only alternate. Makes sense. Wouldn't be surprised if Liisi went too as she came her from USA just for the show. Joe Aaron Reid was already in the uk before Dreamgirls. Doubt any of the other uk cast would go as America has its own talent too. Is Ibinabo ill? I actually loved her in Legally Blonde but realised she hasn't done a main role in London since then

I suspect Amber and Liisi were hired with the intention that they would lead a Broadway transfer. I wouldn't be surprised if Marisha, Joe Aaron Reid and Adam J Bernard also transfer, and maybe Tyrone Huntley. Equally though there are plenty of people in New York who could fill all those roles. When was the last time Ibinabo was on? I had assumed she was on holiday, but she seems to have been off for ages!

Today is Marisha's scheduled alternate date, but Karen is taking over tonight as Marisha has done so many consecutive shows. But if Amber is still ill, I imagine Marisha will do tomorrow.

Daniel - you are ON IT! Now - what I'd like to know is when Amber's last show is and when the show will be extended LOL
