As mentioned before, the TV screen in the lobby as you descend the stairs had a cast list on for me, a static one, when i went in Jan. Nobody else seems to have experienced this which is odd.... I have seen this too, and it was there when I saw Funny Girl and Gypsy... all Understudy information for the performances I have seen there have been on there. But as you say, somehow, no one seems to ever notice it, even though you have to walk past that bar to get past both the Dress and Stalls. But its like when I saw Dreamgirls the first time and people were saying in the auditorium they had no idea Amber wasn't on until Marisha ran on at the beginning, even though there were signs everywhere in the theatre saying this, including on the box office and by the door into the auditorium. USE YOUR EYES PEOPLE!!

WOW! Guess she wasn't ready after all... so unless she was taken off the website by accident (which I doubt), Marisha and Karen are now the only Alternates!

If it's true I take no pleasure in being proven to be right and I'm sure Dan doesn't either. She must be gutted. And whatever the reason is it's been badly handled by the producers. Again.

I find it funny how they've almost dropped both original alternates. Ruth, for one, has never even been on! Karen got on quite a lot quite early in the run but since Marisha has been brought in, Karen doesn't seem to be on that much. Marisha is 100% the main/1st alternate

The producers caused all of this by hiring more than one alternate in the first place - it was just unnecessary. Have one alternate plus a couple of understudies like other shows manage perfectly well!

Ruth however obviously wasnt ready to go on, meaning Karen was getting on more than anyone expected. This obviously leaves the show fragile (as they are effectively an alternate down) and with Amber's illness over the Christmas period etc they brought Marisha over. Marisha (with her 8 shows a week BW experience) was clearly more up to doing multiple shows back to back to cover Amber's pneumonia etc than Karen (who appeared to be tiring and getting run down herself hence some dodgy reviews) meaning that Marisha did then end up getting on more than Karen (who was hired to do one show a fortnight originally) It all makes sense to me.

It is a shame, because I was curious to see her have at least one performance. But I think 2 Alternates at the start was a stretch anyway, let alone 3! I think we knew as soon as Marisha came over, Ruth was out, so it isn't the biggest surprise, but it is always a shame to see someone out of the job. But I expect she has probably known for a little while about this.

A more cynical explanation might be they hired two knowing that odds were one to them wouldn't be up to scratch as both were untested. Ditching one of them was part of Sonia's master plan all along.

Do any other shows have two alternates rather than the more usual Standby/alternate/1st or 2nd understudy?!
I agree with a previous post that perhaps both Ruth and Karen were untested and therefore the two of them mitigated any ongoing risk? If you look at other shows who only have Standbys or 1 alternate they're usually seasoned performers aren't they?!

Amber Riley will be on holiday on: 17th and 18th March 2017, 25th and 26th April 2017, 29th and 30th June 2017, 1st, 4th and 5th July 2017, 1st to 5th August 2017, 26th and 27th September 2017 and 13th and 14th October 2017. Oooo sh*t, backlash will be heading their way now for those who have booked those dates to see Amber. I wonder how they will split the dates between Karen and Marisha for these dates?

Thanks for sharing this. I just had a check of my tickets for October...would have been quite disappointed if she was off then. But of course she needs and deserves holidays!

Anyone who gives them backlash for that is being ridiculous - they've given loads of notice of practically all these dates (even nearly a month for the March ones), and Amber is only taking a full week off a couple of times and is otherwise spreading her holidays out. Not sure any other show has already announced their lead's holidays for 9 months down the line! Will definitely plan both to see Amber again and to see Marisha - was potentially going to go on 18 March anyway so if Marisha's on then I might still do that.

If Amber is taking time off in October, I wonder if she will extend her run in the show?
Does anyone know when her last show is scheduled?

When she takes time off is irrelevant - Rachel Tucker took a few scheduled days off a couple of weeks before she left Wicked earlier this year.
I expect the plan will be for her to take it to Broadway once she's done a year here (and probably the same goes for Lisii). I think Amber's said in interviews she's here until sometime in November.

Am I wrong in thinking that a lot of people will have booked months in advance though- particularly if they wanted decent tickets. Not disputing the fact that Amber needs holidays but of course some people are going to be disappointed if they've paid over £100 for a ticket. It's pretty common for holidays to be announced in this way where a 'big name' is used- it was certainly done for Beverley and Alexandra in the Bodyguard and for Sister Act. Still, they've dealt with it as best they can in the circumstances.

You're not wrong, but whether people like it or not, they're not entitled to see a particular performer, so as far as I'm concerned any backlash against the producers is entirely unfair and unwarranted, especially as they have no obligation to actually announce Amber's holidays at all! Being disappointed doesn't entitle a person to complain about not getting something they are not entitled to demand! It's tough luck - if someone wants a guarantee of a star performing or their money back, then they should be looking across the pond for their theatre. It's common for holidays to be announced, less common for them to be announced nearly a year in advance.

On Twitter Ruth appeared very confident that she would be on as Effie. Ruth was either unaware that she didn't make the cut or she did know and was trying to over compensate for the fact that she may not have been right for the part.
