Caught the show again last night to see Amber - she was fantastic! Obviously her vocals are the highlight but I really enjoyed her portrayal. I wish I had just a fraction of her vocal talent. I don't think that any actress should be expected to play that part 8 shows a week though, it should have been shared from the beginning.
Lorell was a highlight aswell last night, Asmeret Ghabremichael brings something so loveable to the character.
I always fancy Curtis. I do have a thing for a man in a suit and so it ticks all the boxes on that front but Joe Aaron Reid is undeniably handsome. Plus the fact he's playing a bad boy!

i wonder when the audio was recorded - Interesting as in that audio, Marisha's And I Am Telling You is rather like Amber's in the use of the of certain riffs such as what I like to call the 'scream' note for want of a better word before the final 'love me, love me, love me, love' movement - something she only did in this manner in the first time I saw her (her first day) and had been adapted to her extended 'looove, woo' that she favours in all recordings just a month later. Also that Lorrell is definitely not Asmaret - my bet is one of the understudies as I don't think Ibinabo and Marisha performed together much if at all. My point being I think this is a rather early performance shortly after Marisha came in as she has developed her own style of the songs more since this.

I was at the evening performznce of her first day, its definately not that performance of her first day as she got entrance appaluse from most in the Stalls when I saw her, but in this audio she doesn't so I imagine it was maybe early January when this was recorded!

We must have been at the same show! I was there on her first show too and there was some entrance applause you're right, nothing on the scale of Ms Riley of course (though I think this is a tragedy!). I suspect you're right, sometime between the show I saw and the second one I saw with her in Feb I suspect. It's great to see how she's grown and settled into her own unique version of Effie though this version is still phenomenal! Marisha IS Effie White!

Got a brief moment for thoughts on tonight’s show.
Asmeret is good when she’s ‘on’ which isn’t all the time.
Joe Aaron Reid’s mic was either turned down or he’s having problems with his voice.
Amber has an amazing voice but I just think Effie is an unlikeable character. Glad I got to see her once more.
Last time I saw it, Jocasta was Lorell; tonight she was Deena. She was very good.
CC was good but also hard to hear at times.
As before, a mediocre show (book and especially lyrics) with great production values.
Very empty in the Dress Circle.

Eek! The book is such a mess and some terrible songs and lyrics but also some great songs
The cast are thankfully great and carry it through.
Why do the audience clap mid song and so you can't hear the singer in 'the note'
Good to tick it off, but I won't rush back.

Yes I must admit I don't know what all the fuss is about with this show. The book is very weak and there are really only a couple of decent songs in it. I too will not be rushing back.

any news on the cast change? As soon as there's news, I'm sure it'll be posted in this thread within about a nanosecond.

Does anybody have any opinion into the ending of 'And I Am Telling You...'
Every-time I listen to the new recording where you hear the genuine end of the first Act which has the little tail bit where the new Dreams come out, I think it's such a bad ending for the number. It's got a huge dramatic ending and then when everyone aches to applaud it comes in with a different little section to bring the curtain down which for me is anti-climactic. Does anyone think "Just a, show-biz just a, show-biz" should just be cut out, then you get a big finish for Effie and blackout?

My vote goes to big finish for Effie and blackout. I am amazed they haven't done this - I assume the authors wont allow it to change?

I remember this discussion happening a while ago and I think the concensus was that it's actually a conscious choice by the production to finish in that anticlimactic way, to steal Effie's thunder as it were. So even after she's absolutely smashed her number...we're gonna end with the "new" Dreams.

As directed by Michael Bennett originally, it was cataclysmically brilliant to have Effie take the house by storm and then watch her recede in agony as the anodyne new "Dreams" close the act - their musical intrusion is all of a nanosecond so there is no doubt that Effie rules the day - I still remember people emerging stunned and teary-eyed into the lobby of the Imperial Theatre

I don't think it matters. Lets be honest, once Effie finishes, no one is paying any attention to the girls coming back out or what they are singing. They are either crying, cheering or applauding. And those few who want to pay attention have to try to look through those standing in front of them so don't bother in the end haha. I think its just to give Lily Frazer more stage time personally.

Show is struggling it seems. Grand circle off-sale for non-Amber (planned) performances on Monday Eves and Weds Matinee.
Will it extend past February? I really thought we'd have a sure fire hit with this one but I guess the casting issues hasn't done the show any favours.
