I don’t think it has repeat visit appeal for many. I found it a bit tedious and politely left my seat free for act 2.

That said, expect it to close around this time next year. Despite my excitement over the new cast, I don't think it is going to blow the box office up much. It will thrive on weekends but not so much weekdays I imagine.

Agree with Daniel J on the repeat visit factor, I've now been 5 times, more than any show ever for me, and I wouldn't hesitate to go again! That being said I do try to vary my Effies between Amber and Marisha to keep it that bit fresher, and the other cast always seems to be slightly different due to illness which I guess is the same with any show but seems highlighted here particularly. As much as I would hate for this to close, I do think it's got another year in it at most unfortunately. I do however think it would do really well on tour with the right cast - wasn't there rumblings of a tour a while ago?

Also - did anyone else notice that Ibinabo Jack was up for the BroadwayWorld UK awards for Lorrell?! Are we sure that's who they mean and not Asmaret, being that she only played the role for around a month before getting ill? I don't trust them with this show since they reported a few months ago that Ibinabo was still in the show!

I was speaking for myself...that’s why I put my name there. 😂 I thought Amber Rileys vocals were phenomenal but the rest just left me cold. What has got you back so often?

I've seen it four times by now, twice with Amber, twice with Marisha. I've always loved Dreamgirls, way before the London production, and have collected many audience recordings from the '80s. My biggest draw to Dreamgirls is the score. Though to each his own, I'm surprised when someone says there are a handful of good songs. The score is quite thrilling and is overall excellent, exciting, and a great one for vocal gymnastics. I'm very much into R&B and soul in theatre, and love shows like The Wiz, The Bodyguard, Dreamgirls, etc, and a show like this totally fulfills my preference in music.
Having said that, I think the second act is quite weaker than the first in its book, especially towards the end. The film did a better job putting things into context against the civil rights era in the US, and made Curtis's crimes and behavior a lot more unacceptable than how it's shown in the show.
I'm surprised to hear that the upper circle is already struggling. It's really not a huge theatre, and the stalls aren't that big to begin with. If they do a big splash for the sophomore cast, perhaps it could pick up again. I would imagine it would attract the Kinky Boots crowd, and then some.

Yeah, the signs are there aren't they? Advertising the hell out of it. I have seen it twice now and probably wouldn't want to see it again.
The stage version is not as richly textured as the film version and comes off for the worse in my view. The production design itself, being highly conceptual is actually not that "interesting" and doesn't stand up to repeated viewings, for me.

I think it would be a smash if they toured it. Manchester would certainly go mad for it, it’s right up our street.

I've seen the show 4 times too - very unusual for me to see a show multiple times as there is usually something new to see. But this together with Kinky Boots x 3 and 42nd St x 3 this has been an exception.
I think it is just because it does what it says on the tin - an enjoyable night at musical theatre - sometimes it is just nice to relax and enjoy.

For me its the score that is the main draw, and the vocals from the cast. Also I really like the visuals and design of the show as well. Throw Marisha Wallace in any musical and I'm there so thats pretty much me set.

18 months to 2 years would still be a great run for Dreamgirls, the original Broadway production ran 3 years so it's not like it ever a long runner.

yikes. I feel embarrassed for Amber for having to performer against Kimmy. You know, I don't blame Kimmy or Lily for not being up to scratch. This is a casting problem, and the producers really need to cast people who are capable of pulling this off to at least a non-embarrassing standard.

Oh gosh.
In my opinion Kimmy has a very aggressive voice, its almost like she combined loud talking with vibrato and called it singing. But like Ali said, its not her fault at all. It seems like the producers make extremely strange choices when casting! It just baffles me, honestly.
The new CC really isn't up to a good standard, it really bugs me.

Never seen him. I saw Tyrone twice and he was amazing but when i wanted to catch the new one ( Joshua ) I got durone stokes and he was really good but just not the best at singing it compared to Tyrone. Have you seen Jocasta as Deena to?

And his voice - maybe its because I loved Tyrone's so much - was just below average. I haven't managed to catch Jocasta but there is this on youtube, not amazing but we have to consider it was her first show. I imagine by now she's perfected her Deena, especially being promoted to first cover!

Of topic but I really thought Moya Angela was an PERFECT casting choice for Effie for the National Tour and although highly unlikely, I am sorta hoping the universe shifts her into the London Production

But thanks for patronising us, and every theatre enthusiast outside of London How do you account for the vast number of “pure entertainment” shows currently hawking their tired asses around the West End?

I'd probably be more likely to see this on tour rather than London. Too much I would rather see when in London, than this.
