Great news to hear about this new production of this musical.
It was wonderful at the National, a few years back now.
Michael Longhurst to direct.

When? I never got to see this. I don't know if I want to trek it to Chichester, but might be convinced depending on the cast.

I recall seeing this (though not even that it was at the NT), but that's all. Wish I could remember whether I had thought it any good, so I knew whether to see the CFT production.
Edit: I see the NT production was 10 years ago, so no wonder all I've retained is the title!

That's all I remember, so it can't have been that good, and I can't see myself going down to Chichester for this... Does washing feature in it? A laundry? Can't see the usual Chichester audiences getting too excited about it.

Sharon D. Clarke would be great in the leading role

I absolutely loved this show at the National and remember it fondly despite the fact it's been a DECADE. I find it hard to believe anyone could fill Tonya Pinkins's shoes, but I look forward to being proven wrong.

It's a great piece. I saw it twice at the NT

Will the Chichester blue rinse brigade like this? My friend is Chichester supporter and she had heard nothing. You would think they would let them know as soon as announced. Not sure I'll trek all the way there for this one. Unless its a stunning cast.

There's a song BY a washing machine isn't there? I stand corrected yes, and the radio.
10 freaking years. I lived in London then as well. Sigh.

It's a blessed moment for Tony Kushner in UK, with iHO, Angels in America and now this Interestingly Angels (Headlong production/Tour) and Caroline were within months of each other in 2007 as well!

I hated this show when I saw it in London and was baffled by the awards it won. I remember little about it other than the aforementioned washing machine song, and how depressed it made me feel afterwards. A bit disappointed by the news tbh. Will be interested to hear what others make of it.

I remember thinking that Tonya Pinkins gave a stunning performance but overall the show was one to be admired rather than loved. I too was slightly baffled by the amount of glowing reviews for it, it made me feel I had missed something.

I have only vague memories of it myself, and likewise remember admiring the ideas/execution rather than loving it.

Agree entirely. It was a pain to sit through. Chichester can have it. Loathsome musical. ITS IN THE F**KIN BLEACH CUP I loathed this show with a passion you can only dream when I saw it 10 years ago

I did suspect that CFT might house this in the Minerva, where tickets are always so much more expensive (and more limited in supply) than in the main house. However, I don't think they usually do musicals in the smaller space, do they? I know my memory is shocking but I recall seeing plays only there over the past few years - though I suppose that could change anyway under the new AD.
Plus, can those who do remember the NT production or any other please tell me whether this is a sung-through show or the song/scene/song type?
