I had never been aware of anti anti-Maureen Lipman feeling until now - and so impassioned, too! On the contrary, if anything I thought she was regarded as a national treasure, but I was evidently wrong about that. Without getting into too much politics, she has said some rather unfortunate things regarding the Palestinian people which could be seen as verging into bigotry,
Her politics are irrelevant as far as I am concerned, it's her acting I'm bothered about. It is true that people regard her as a national treasure, well, one person at least. |

One of these was Firs in The Cherry Orchard in a production at the Crucible Sheffield. At the first performance on his first entrance he walked to the front of the stage and said "I've never played a snooker hall before" Moral: There is a difference between an actor and a performer. |

At the first performance on his first entrance he walked to the front of the stage and said "I've never played a snooker hall before" Moral: There is a difference between an actor and a performer. At the same theatre, Ralf Little played the offstage commentator in Richard Wilson's production of Richard Bean's comic play The Nap. The tense deciding frame of snooker in the World Snooker Final is played live on stage over several minutes, by Jack O'Connell and a professional snooker player, so Ralf Little has to adapt his commentary to the run of the balls each night. He included several hilarious comments which got good laughs from the audience. At the post-show q&a, someone asked how much of the commentary was scripted and how much improvised, and Richard Wilson pulled a face and said that there were prepared options for every possible eventuality but that tonight there had indeed been a couple of additional comments which really shouldn't have been there. |

Just read the play Love In Idleness. Dear God its dull. I wonder if they will breathe some life into it on stage but so little happens, the characters are annoying and it doesn't really say anything about anything. Glad I didn't book.

Lipman has a reputation, shall we say. A couple of years ago a friend was asked to ghostwrite/assist with a biography. He was reluctant because she was a known nightmare. He didn't say who but we speculated either Cilla or Maureen until he saud "No, a good actress"

I can't even see it advertised on their website, is it a Menier mailing list only link to getting tickets? Edited: sorry, my mistake, I thought the double whammy of Felicity and Maureen was nearly sold out, I'm not bothered about the other play.

A reminder - surprised to find no recent posts re this - that public booking is now open. So maybe it's not that popular a prospect here? I had a look but decided not to bother as I can't get to any of the matinees during the preview period and with an 8 pm start and a likely running time of 2 hours 30 (based on previous UK production), an 8 pm start is not for me.

I probably would have left it if there had been no seats near the front in the preview period, I'm not that excited about seeing this that I would pay premium prices.

Booked, and surprised how busy it was. Nothing front row for any date I could go, but got something reasonable on row C for a preview. Wasn't going to pay the premium prices. I had to go all the way to the final week to get front row on a date I could go! Not sure if that says more about the popularity of the show or the ridiculous state of my diary! |

Do the Menier put tickets up for sale later?

I believe they hold back a small allocation for their top-tier members and any unused are then released fairly last minute during the run, they are sold via the website, along with returns I think. So keep checking! They also have form for adding an extra performance so make sure you're registered for updates  |

I notice they only schedule to do 7 performances a week, so I am hoping they will add a midweek matinee.
Also with this being sold out and sold well, could a transfer be on the cards?
