Thanks for the heads up! Got a preview-rate ticket in the front row for the first week. Excited!

Yup, and there's plenty of availability right now for the rest of the run in the £32 bracket as well. Still expensive, but I had to get one due to a previous Buffy addiction.

This wasn't on my radar at all until I saw Baz's tweet - will definitely try and nab tickets for this on feb 1st. I must admit that, as a fan of Buffy and Nurse Jackie, Anthony Head and Eve Best are definitely the draws for me! I just think of the prime minister in Little Britain when I see Anthony Head.
I saw Anthony Head speak at a Doctor Who convention a few years ago, and all he got asked about was Little Britain & Buffy! Not one question about his Doctor Who appearance.

I'd remembered the midnight on-sale thing but wasn't here then to see it confirmed. However, I've now hastened to the site + secured an aisle seat for the preview period. Thank goodness they did at least have a matinee, albeit a single one, during that time, as no way can I cope with an 8 pm performance whereas the MCF matinees are bliss with their 3.30 pm start.

For me Anthony Head will always be the Gold Blend man. And Freddie Trumper in Chess. I saw him in that and remember wondering how many other brothers had ever played the same role in a West End musical (his brother Murray was the original Freddie on the recording and in the first cast).

Felicity Kendal is in a play and it isn't coming to Richmond Theatre, I thought that wasn't allowed!
I still remember the audible murmur that went through the audience from men of a certain age when in, I think, Amy's View she got water poured down her while wearing a white dress and they caught a glimpse of Kendal nipple.
I don't think Penelope Keith's last play came to Richmond either - another clear sign that civilisation is breaking down.

Maureen Lipman. Give me strength. Cue more impassioned press interviews with Maureen Lipman where she forcefully gives her opinions on hot news topics of the day and demonstrates her ignorance. Anyway, shouldn't she be performing solely in the UK City of Culture this year? - her birthplace, as she's told us many times - not in LunnDunn!

Maureen will be furious to learn they've turned the car park under the Menier into another theatre.

Maureen will be furious to learn they've turned the car park under the Menier into another theatre. On the few occasions I've failed to avoid seeing her on stage she has always managed to effortlessly convey the message: "Look ! Look ! Look at me ! It's me, Maureen Lipman ! But I'm acting ! Aren't I acting well ! Look how good my acting is ! But it's really me, Maureen Lipman!" I used to have somewhat the same problem, but at a much higher acting level, with Sher years ago when he was on the brandy and cocaine diet. What's the betting Maureen treats us to a few lighhearted and VERY revealing articles on the rehearsal process ?

Well, after everything I've said about the Menier (see She Loves Me thread) I seem to have, um, just booked Love in Idleness for April! Oopsie! (I'll take a torch!)
And I will be first in the queue for Lettice and Lovage when booking opens as I would love to see those two ladies strutting their stuff close up. (Contrary to popular opinion I see!) I saw Dame Mags do it, so a hard act to follow.

Can't think why, but I have just remembered when I saw Dr Evadne Hinge and Dame Hilda Bracket in The Importance of Being Earnest.

I had never been aware of anti anti-Maureen Lipman feeling until now - and so impassioned, too! On the contrary, if anything I thought she was regarded as a national treasure, but I was evidently wrong about that.

During the run of A Little Night Music at the Menier there was quite a lot of noise coming from the nightclub that used to be next door so Maureen, in full costume, as it was in the middle of the show, swans in and asks them to turn the volume down. As it was a gay club the boys were so surprised and impressed to see her that they immediately did as they were told.

Without getting into too much politics, she has said some rather unfortunate things regarding the Palestinian people which could be seen as verging into bigotry,

Maureen will be furious to learn they've turned the car park under the Menier into another theatre. I'm not sure if this is a joke or not. Was there really a car park? What's the new theatre like?
