Been reading what this show is about and the storyline seems very..well..strange? Has anybody seen it and is it an actual good play? It's a great play imho |

I'll be seeing both this and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? I didn't see Damian Lewis in American Buffalo but I thought he was good in The Misanthrope several years back and I generally like his work. Sophie Okenedo is also excellent casting. I'm looking forward to it.

Saw it in New York with Bill Pullman. It won a Tony for Best Play 2002. Sally Field was also in it later in the run.

Uhm day seats are not too bad by this awful theatre's standards. The stage must be around 5'5'', it was considerably higher for Mr Foote's Other leg (I know because I was so bored when I saw it that I tried to hang myself during the interval). Put your coat under your North Pole and you should be fine(ish).

So, I saw it last night. Solid production of a brilliant play, it was totally savage! Is Damian Lewis famous? After every line he got that kind of reaction that only audience's sweethearts get. I wasn't 100% sold on his performance, it had some good moments but there's big room for improvement. It was only the second preview, so he has time to settle in the role (even if I think it has more to do with his understanding of the character, I doubt his performance will change much). Archie Madekwe is good, if not a bit "drama-schooled".
The real star is Sophie Okonedo, she delivers a very fine performance and her confrontation with the husband in the second scene is really terrific. I forgot how funny this play is... Beautiful scenery by the way!

VERY well known for people that like their prestige television dramas: Band of Brothers, Homeland, Wolf Hall, Billions as well as his solid collection of film and theatre roles. He puts in the work and does interesting stuff, I think he's very well admired.

I am sorry But unless you are joking The comment shows ignorance Sophie Okonedo is very well known in the US Where they support and write roles for black actors She is just one in a long line of BAME actors who have had to leave the UK Due to being constantly overlooked |

I think it's bizarre
That this is a theatre board
Yet the lack of basic knowledge from many
Amazes me
If people who claim to be theatre goers or film lovers or have any knowledge on the arts have not heard of Damian Lewis or Sophie Okonedo
They need to broaden their horizons
Regardless of where they live
We are not living in a social or cultural vacuum
And we have Netflix
Anything else aside Damian Lewis has performed in the WE within the last 2 years and also starred in a major revival at the NT with Lesley Manville which received 5 star reviews and itself came back for a second run
Although perhaps people haven't heard of her either?
Plus he is married to a very well known actress
As for Sophie Okonedo
She starred in Dirty Pretty Things
Has been nominated for an Oscar a BAFTA and Golden Globe
And is a British born actress
How many of those has David Tennant been considered for?
Or Miranda Hart?
Two "well loved" British treasures
That people haven't heard of either Damian Lewis or Sophie Okonedo and don't deem them worthy of a premium ticket price says more about their own lack of basic arts knowledge than anything else

I know it's useless to say...but can we not be a dick to people just because they haven't heard of someone? Not everyone's cultural radar is the same, it doesn't make them 'better' or 'worse' than anyone else. It just makes the people doing the 'How have you never heard of x' look like they're trying to score cultural superiority points.
