I suspect the drum revolve will be working over time for this.......is it in use at the moment?

I'd cast Celia Imrie in this somewhere, and Susan Jane Tanner, and Josie Lawrence and Janis Kelly, and Jill Pert and Sandra Dugdale...

Does anybody know when booking would open? Really hope I can get a ticket to this, sure it won sell out fast as the NT is a big venue. I'd love it to transfer but if Imelda is doing Gypsy in 2018, then I can't see a transfer happening? George, you might want to look into the NT entry pass scheme

I wonder how long the run will be? I'd assume September to January?

I really want to see this but I'm desperately hoping it doesn't go on sale until the new year money wise. The hubby is going to go nuts if I try booking something else. There is also so much locally I want to see too, that I haven't booked yet. Why did I promise him, no more credit cards!! I want to live a champagne lifestyle on a pint and pasty wage. Trekkie, the answers lie in your post: Pack the hubby off to the local on the night in question... Ask the barman to have a bag of nuts ready for him... Make sure he's served pint after pint... And a pasty is waiting in the microwave ready for him on his return home... Meanwhile- you sip champagne in the NT bar during the interval of Follies, crooning (a la Imelda) "In Hubby's Eyes..." Seriously- a hubby is worth his weight in gold. Treasure him and I'm sure he'll understand.

Loved her in Calendar Girls (was kinda hoping she's appear in the musical version!) but would like to see her do a musical again after Acorn Antiques - let's get her and Julie Walters back on stage together! cant believe Julie isn't a dame yet and Celia hasn't even got an MBE!

I very much doubt Celia Imrie would ever do The Girls, none of the original cast of the film reprised their role in the play never the musical! Julie Walters only got her CBE 8 years ago, I'm sure her damehood is coming within the next few years but usually they wait a while between honours.

This, The Boys in the Band, The BFI Film Festival, Dreamgirls, Gypsy on DVD, an attempt at the Aladdin lottery, a new Robbie and a nee Kate Bush CD , plus Christmas! Bloody Hell! As exciting as it all is, it's like an expensive drug habit! I'm working just to pay rent and pay off my Credit Cards.

Surely this will end up part of NT Live as well?? NT Live seems to miss out the musicals with the exception of The Threepenny Opera last week, which could be because, as I said earlier, there tends to be a debate whether it is a musical or a play with songs (I personally think it's a musical!). Seeing as Follies is a definite musical it could be missed out. Maybe it could broadcast on TV again like Gypsy?

anthony, I have just added you to my Christmas Card List for mentioning the new Kate Bush CD. I was "mentioning" it somewhat discreetly with my new avatar. The excitement is too much... After two years we've finally heard that we're to hear it all again. It'll be like 25th December on... 25th November 2016, Before The Dawn Live... The only contemporary music act to receive a special Editor's Prize at the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards. Presented to Kate by the lovely Ian McKellan. Visit her website to listen to the Prologue, a beautiful ten minute version with added Ding Dongs. (They didn't appear on the studio version of the same piece, as boybooshka will testify.) There. I've said it.

You can't beat it live!

I'm so excited for this. Imelda will of course be fabulous. I think Janie Dee will make a good Phyllis as long as she learns her bloody lines! Every time I've seen her she's fluffed more than her fair share of lyrics. Can't imagine her doing well with Jessie & Lucy!

Being a lifelong Kate Bush fan as taught me to be patient.

I hope Kathryn Evans get's cast in this production. She's not used nearly enough nowadays. She'd be fabulous as Carlotta. It would be a nice full circle for her as she played Sally in the Festival Hall production back in 2002. If only they could coax Julia McKenzie back out of retirement for Hattie. Her Broadway Baby would bring the house down.
Despite seeing this show numerous times, it's never really worked for me. I never fully get the loveland sequence; all their breakdowns etc...

Live, Laugh, Love really needs the band in a traditional pit [the Conductor tries to cue Ben back in etc.], which would mean the Lyttleton. The revolve would be great, which would mean Olivier. CamMac instigated several dubious changes which I hope are reversed for this; with the exception of Ah, But Underneath which was great for Diana Rigg and could be good for Dee too (easier than Lucy and Jessie ;-) ) Original orchestrations, please.

I think the NT will go for established theatre actors rather than any pop star or reality TV types. Could there be a role for Kathryn Kelly? She has done a fair bit of NT stuff and a decent singer. Agree with Philip Quast. I really can picture it in the Olivier and using the drum revolve to its full potential.

The sun comes up I think about it The coffee cup I think about it They say September or are they just being kind? Or am I losing my mind? All afternoon doing every little chore The thought of it stays bright Just like Monkey in the middle of the stalls not going left not going right I dim the lights and think about it Spend sleepless nights and think about it I heard the Olivier or are they just being kind? Or am I losing my mind?
My current obsession - even the changed lyrics seem to inspire! Would love to see Julia McKenzie as Hattie and Shirley Bassey as Carlotta.

Last year I bumped into Julia McKenzie while she was going to Drury Lane to rehearse for the Hey Old Friends! concert and when I saw her I lost my words and muttered something idiotic like "you are my favourite Sally in Follies". And she looked at me and said "well, I bet you say that to all the girls". Love her so much, I wish she might consider playing Hattie in this revival.
