This is amazing news. The NT have had the rights for years so this has been a long time coming.
Imelda will be sensational.. Janie Dee.. Hmmm, not a fan of her weedy singing voice. Not sure how she gets these big musical roles.
Anyway- there's sure to be lots more exciting casting to come.

I saw the revival in the late 80s with Diana Rigg, Julia McKenzie and Dan Massey. It was fabulous. Anyone else remember it? Wonder if they will try and tempt Nathan Lane.😁

Oh my god! Just read the news about Chess and was excited, now I have nearly wet myself!
Follies with Imelda - doesn't get any better than that. Also a big Janie Dee fan and she will be superb.
Funny thing - I was doing the backstage tour of the NT on Tuesday (which I thoroughly recommend) and said to the tour leader that it was about time the NT did a big musical, so you can all thank me for this one......................

Faberoo! Great leading ladies too, that's gonna be a bit of a ticket scrum I reckon. Imelda will of course be great (she really is becoming our new Judi Dench I think) but I have to say I really love Janie Dee. It's true her voice isn't the biggest or strongest and I don't think she's necessarily the greatest actress either but she has a real charisma about her and the whole 'Janie Dee package' just really works for me in bucketloads.

Stunning cast. Can imagine this will be in the Lyttleton, but can you IMAGINE how grand it would look in the Olivier.
And yes, Imelda looks set to be nominated for both Best Actress in a Play and in a Musical in 2018.

1987 cast had Julia McKenzie, Diana Rigg, Dolores Gray (then in 1988: JM, Millicent Martin and Eartha Kitt), plus Daniel Massey, David Healey, Lynda Baron, Maria Charles, Margaret Courtney, Leonard Sachs, Pearl Carr & Teddy Johnson, and Adele Leigh. Meg Johnson, Hope Jackman, Eileen Page and Harold Kasket joined the 1988 cast.
I was lucky enough to see both and they were marvellous.
Can't wait for the National's take on this: I'll be Losing My Mind...

Oh, let's dreamcast the reast of the cast! I wouldn't mind Peter Polycarpou to reprise Buddy, or Nathan Lane would be awesome but don't think will happen. And I hope Alex Hanson won't play Ben, he's the most boring actor in the world. Samantha Bond as Carlotta? Bonnie Langford? Would love Tracie Bennet to play Hattie but it's probably not enought for her... Anita Dobson was surprisingly good as Stella, maybe she'll consider reprising the role.

I did see the production at the Shaftesbury several times - it was FABULOUS! Just cannot wait for this. Plus being at the National the ticket prices will not be "premium" West End prices. It will be about availability!
