Might be partially influenced that rehearsals start on 9th ahead of a first performance on 13th. Hopefully there'll be a refresh soon, this casting news has made me doubt whether I'll book to visit this tour in all honesty. That is appalling. I saw half of this cast 10 years ago. I know they keep people forever there, Daniel Taylor, Tim Churchill and Lyn, they've been there far too long.

The appalling bit I meant above was a week's rehearsal, not the cast.

For me Lyn Paul in Blood Brothers is the equivalent to Linzi Hateley in Joseph. She totally owns the part of Mrs. Johnstone whether she's 72 or decades younger. Age is just a number. Audiences love her and the show has an incredibly loyal following who see every tour, me included. If Lyn Paul can still play such a demanding role into her 70s then long may she continue. She must be doing something right. Was she on the tour when it was cancelled last year?
If I may ask, were you a Lyn Paul fan before she went into the show?
Sort of, yes. Big fan of The New Seekers, got all their albums though not too keen on Lyn Paul's two solo releases. I think the 2020 cancelled tour was also billed as Lyn's farewell one so not really surprising she's back in the show.

The opening show on Friday was cancelled due to the events in Plymouth on Thursday.
Both performances yesterday went ahead, with an introduction by director Bob Tomson, who led the company and audience in a minute's silence.
The audience was informed what to expect at the end of the show, so no-one was unpleasantly surprised, and it was much appreciated.
As several people from the company said 'We are probably the worst show to be in Plymouth right now.'.

Yup, my best friend was there last night and I think it was the right thing to do re. trigger warnings. I still think they should have postponed to next week because of the tragic events that have happened, but it's not the cast or crew's fault.

Oxford is in for a treat - after both shows yesterday were filled in by understudies across many parts, including Paula Tappenden as Mrs J, tonight Tracy Spencer Jones returns to the role of Mrs J after eight years absence.

All this week, Josh Capper is playing Mickey. He's really good too, shame I miss it.
Lyn Paul recently announced on Twitter she usually has Thursday-matinee off, so health and reschedule permitting, on Thursdays:
Paula Tappenden will be Mrs J Grace Galloway will be Mrs L Hannah Barr will be Donna Marie/Miss Jones

Had to have a good hunt for this thread.
All the above were on tonight in Newcastle and are on all weekend. Thought Mickey was especially brilliant but Mrs Johnstone was great too.
Alas I have missed Lyn's farewell tour it seems. Until the next one...
I have not seen this show for years and years but there are always familiar faces in the cast who must have been with this show forever. I am not sure I would be able to cope with forever being on the road but it must be a very supportive company to be there for so long.

For the next 2.5 weeks the role of Mrs Johnstone will be played by Amy Robbins!
Amy played Mrs J in the West End in 2011/2012.
This covers Chester, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
She has been very well received in her first two performances yesterday.
Lyn Paul is not performing because her father has fallen ill, and she has taken some time off to look after him.

Sad though the current circumstances are it does seem that Lyn Paul has missed alot of performances since the start of this tour. Maybe it's time for this to actually be the last "farewell tour"? It certainly has been the era of the understudies for the show in the last few weeks - four have been on.
Grace Galloway (Donna Marie/Miss Jones/Mrs Lyons/Brenda) and Hannah Barr (Brenda/Donna Marie/Miss Jones/Linda) got to perform all their covers this week alone
I went to see the matinée in Chester yesterday - I walked out after the show and booked straightaway for that evening again.
Amy Robbins brings something extra to the role of Mrs Johnstone. She plays it completely different to any other actress I have seen in the role, and she does it extremely well. She brings it full of emotion, without going OTT. It could be said her singing voice is not as strong as say Lyn Paul, but it is still very good. I absolutely loved her interpretation, and I do hope this is not the last we see of her as Mrs Johnstone.
Hannah Barr was on as Linda for both shows, and she was excellent. Hannah brings this little extra to every role she plays in the show. She was great as playful Linda, teen Linda, and heartbreaking as adult Linda.
It is also a joy to see how Alex Patmore has made the role of Mickey completely his own. He was still rather poorly yesterday, but it certainly didn't show. Each time I see him he seems to be even better than the last time.
The show is going to Glasgow and Edinburgh next, and after those two weeks Lyn Paul is expected to return.

Lyn Paul has now returned to the role of Mrs Johnstone, to raving reviews.
Her most likely performance off is Thursday matinée, although this may be subject to change.

That's very clever. Love it!
Maybe a new thread?: reviews written in the style of the piece being reviewed.

I think I’m with Mr S when it starts but am always sobbing like a teenage girl the day Take That split up by the end. It doesn’t really exist in the same musical theatre space as anything else currently playing…maybe ‘Come From Away’ a touch. It’s familiarity is like a warm fratricidal hug. Knowing what you are in for and revelling in it, whilst a little twisted, is a reward in itself.
